Continued from Page AA ready an article by Robert Stewart about the Comal County Child Advocacy, instituted by Reinter. I understand from this article that volunteers arc trained to speak up for abused and neglected children in court, reviewing records and making recommendations to the judge.
Executive Director Betty Marsh Green said, “Our volunteers go to court with the child and arc there to be with them whenever needed.” The court scene, at best, can only be a horror for the child, but having a caring volunteer beside him seems incomparably more acceptable than Reinters description of “sitting in the courtroom in a totally alien and hostile environment.”
What, then, is the truth about our unfortunate abuse children — must they appear alone, or is there always a warm and helpful volunteer/friend beside them?

Like ‘Queen for a Day*
To the Downtown Merchants Association and Ilcrald-Zeitung:
Being selected Super Grandparent of Comal County this year is an honor and has brought fun and excitement. With all the recognition and congratulations from relatives and friends it has been like “Queen for a Day! ”
It is gratifying to live in a community where such events still occur. All the nice winnings makes one aware of the many shops and services available right here in New Braunfels.
A sincere thank you to all who par
ticipated and also to granddaughter Tracy of Houston for entering my name. She still enjoys shopping in New Braunfels.

Sounds like a threat
On the radio this morning (Sept. 13) I was appalled to hear the city manager’s statement about his knowing who the department head w as w ho had appeared al the executive meeting several nights ago. But he added that being a fair man he was not sure of his course of action regarding this employee. In my opinion, this was a way of conveying a threat to this department head. Whoever this person is, they must be in a terrible position of losing their job for “blowing the whistle”
Arc the people of New Braunfels being denied the basic freedom of speech about ethics in our government? A state of fear is a deplorable condition in a democracy! A person who would deny a basic freedom to anyone through fear is not a fair judge of anything.

A big, big percent of American autos contain foreign parts. Some American cars have Mistubishi engines and etc. And finally, U.S.A., arc we heading
find out? This was a closed executive meeting and I am interested to know how did he find out who it was. I have called sonic of the City Council and they will not tell me who the department head is. Who is this person being accused? This is somewhat like writing a letter and not singing it. Naming a person bul not really naming a person. This is one way to deflect criticism of the 4-3 vote of several nights ago — away from himself. I am going to sign my opinion.

And the beat goes on
“And the beat goes on.”
And we hear of the catfish farm in San Antonio pumping 50 million gallons of water a day, just to raise catfish (scavenger fish). Next thing we will hear of a carp farm and there goes more precious water. And then city officials complain because citizens use water to water their lawns.
And then we hear about American technology and how we depend on a foreign country for high-tech computers, software and hardware, so that our aircraft can fly and other high-tech gear viral to our defense of the U.S.A. Why the dependency?
And then we hcar about politicians giving themselves a raise, then they raise taxes for this and taxes for that.
And then we hear “buy American products,” particularly automobiles.
for a “coup dc tat?** Perhaps not. $ut maybe a “coup dc grace,” huh?
