New Braunfels Herald Zeitung (Newspaper) - September 4, 1987, New Braunfels, Texas Religious Focus Page 6 Herald-Zeitung. New Braunfels. Texas Friday. September 4 1987 Ministerial Alliance Hold to His promises — Matthew 14:22-33 By DAVID LOEFFLER Associate Pastor Cross Lutheran Church Many Christians are familiar with this event recorded in our text when our Lord walked on the water to his disciples in their boat during one of those frequent storms upon the Sea of Galilee. We today can identify with the disciples and their fear and anxiety due to the impending danger of the storm. It sees as if whenever the disciples were separated from the Lord’s physical presence, they became unsure of themselves and were easily frightened Isn t is also sometimes true with us todav° We seem so close to our Lord when we are in worship service and when w e are partaking of the Lord’s Supper when He comes to us with His body and blood as promised He seems so dose during our Bible studies and devotions But when we are not in church, when we are not into Bible study, when we are away from the fellowship of bel levers, when we are so busy with the business of everyday life. and when the storms beset us. our Lord Jesus’ presence seems so far away The tempests of ill health, the threat of death long-term hospitalization, many unpaid bills, difficult courses at school a boss who threatens with unemployement just to list a few take much of our time and effort We. too. are tossed about on the sea of despair We. too. are fighting against a powerful wind and seemingly getting nowhere Christ’s presence seems to be far away The path to our goals in life is cluttered with storms so that the desired shore is completely out of sight It is at times like this that our Lord comes to us just as surely as He came to His frightened disciples tossed about on the dangerous waves He comes to us in His Word, the Bible, and brings to our remembrances all His great mercies Christ came nearly 2.000 years ago into our flesh being true God true Man in order to calm the storm of sin in our lives The storm of God s wrath He bore that Good Friday and that expensive, perfect sacrifice was accepted by our Father in heaven as a given evidence by Christ's rising again from the dead that first Easter morning The gulf of separation between us and God has been bridged And it s ours, all yours and mine, through the gift of faith in Christ our Lord and Savior When we review this wonderful grace for all people, even us, the problems of life are placed in their eternal perspective For lf god loved mankind so much that He gave His See PROMISES Page 7 Briefly Catholic Daughters to meet Sept.
