Ladies of the Thistle meet
The National Society Ladies of the Thistle met for its regular meeting Oct. 4 at the San Antonio Country Club.
The board of directors met at IO a.m. with the new Gov. General Delitha Guenzel, of New Braunfels, presiding.
Reports were given by First Deputy Gov. Vesta Lee and Third Deputy Gov. Pat McConnell who reported the yearbooks would go to press soon.
Many corrections had to be made as there were 15 deaths reported.
Registrar Virginia Bridge had just approved papers for a new member, Jean Fish.
Treasurer Mari Del Lockwood made her report.
At ll a.m. the group assembled. Rosemary Sanders gave the invocation. Guenzel led the pledges to the U.S. and Texas flags and the Americans Creed.
Members introduced themselves and their guests.
In the business meeting, a new recording secretary was elected. Jeanne Morris of Kerrville was elected to replace Nettie Williams, who resigned.
An invitation had been received from Judge Rd Butler and his wife, Robin, to attend a Lineage Society picnic from noon to 5 p.m. Oct. ll at their home in Cross Mountain Ranch.
Lee introduced Rosemarie Taylor, who gave a program on Mary, Queen of Scots. A gift was presented by Lee.
Special guests were John Johnson, of Kerrville, Wanda Perry, of New Braunfels, David Taylor, of San Antonio and Rosemarie and Kirk Gregory, of New Braunfels.

"It Pays to Get As" was launched with the help of (from left) Bob Wiegand, Canyon High principal; Susan Jones, Smithson Valley High assistant principal; Steve Evans, World Car Motors general manager; Elisa Racanelli, New Braunfels High assistant principal; and Roland Mena, Judson High senior 'advisor. High school seniors can register for a chance to win the $25,000 car credit each time they have an A or B on their report card. The winner will be drawn in June 2004.
Recently, approximately 40 Smithson Valley FFA Greenhands attended the traditional SVFFA Greenhand Camp.
Throughout the day, the Greenhands went through four, 20-minute sessions for the development of leader
ship skills, communication skills and teamwork building.
The 2003-04 Greenhand officers were elected. They are Mason Diharce, president; Ronnie Grutzner, vice president; Trevor Broyles, secretary; Kristin Richter, reporter; Nathaniel Oku, treasurer; Kelly James, sentinel; Joseph Schreiber, student adviser; and Sam Owens, parliamentarian.
