New Braunfels Herald Zeitung (Newspaper) - October 18, 1991, New Braunfels, Texas HerakJ-Za/tong, New Braunfels, Texas    Friday,    October    18,    1991 Herald-*"**. Ne* Braunfels. Texas    Friday.    October    18.    1991 Page 7A1991 RED RIBBON WEEK October 19 - 27, 1991"Why I Am Drug Free" Winning Essays6th Grade FIRST PLACE SECOND PLACE THIRD PLACE DRUGS! Drugs arc nasty. Drugs are gross. Drugs are sick. Anyone who uses drugs is totally out of it! You asked me why I am not on drugs. The reason I am not on drugs is because: they taste bad, they stink and they mess up your brain. How ’bout I put it this way, you are frying your brain and other parts of your body! Another reason I am not on (hugs is because, I would like to be a winner in showing animals in the Comal County Youth Show. Such as getting Grand Champion, and you can not do drugs while showing. There is another reason why I am drug free, because of SCHOOL! If you were doing drugs during school you could be suspended or get busted by your parents. Here arc a few for kinds of drugs: cocaine, marijuana and alcohol. This is why I am drug free!!! Jason Bloch Canyon Middle School 6th Grade Why I Am Drug Free There’s no light at the end of the tunnel if that tunnel leads to drugs. It’s not the best of places to be when your parents find out that you’ve been taking drugs. Sometimes they might be hurt or even mad because of it and you’ll be caught between a rock and a hard place. Drugs can also effect a longer career you might have wanted. Or for that fact your parents, even relatives might want you to pursue that job! Now seriously, do you think you can have a job if you’re silting in a prison cell? Even if you’re not in a prison cell anymore, but still have it on your record, you can’t get a good job. lf you do drugs and want to become a sports star, forget it. It’s over pal, you’re done. It’s deep six! Ralph Salazar Oakrun Middle School 6th Grade Being a drug free person is like the United States is drug free, but the United States is not drug free. I watch the news at night and I see teenagers getting arrested because they were doing drugs. What I am going to tell you is real tragic. There was a girl named Mindy, she was sixteen and she went to the movies with a friend. After the movie was over some of her friends came to pick them up and took them to a party. After the party was over some of Mindy’s friends were going to take Mindy home, but her friends were drunk. That night they had a car accident. The mick ran into a tree. Mindy flew out the window. She landed on her mouth. A week later she died. The next day was her funeral. Maria Castro Canyon Middle School 6th Grade 7thtsGcade FIRST PLACE SECOND PLACE THIRD PLACE Why I Chose To Be Drug Free I am drug free because this is what could happen to me. I could become suicidal, become emotionally disturbed and become very depressed. Drugs will and do kill. I can defeat the pressures. I can see the trouble caused in the world due to drugs. Drugs are not the answer. Friends, parents and someone you can trust is the answer. I choose to remain drug free because without drugs I can think, operate and control my brain to be a success in the world. Let’s all help to stamp out drugs in our community. Be like me, drug free. Katii N. Hudgins New Braunfels Middle School 7th Grade I Don’t Try Drugs I am drug free for many reasons, and here is why. As you can see, there are three, reasons why, I don’t try drugs! The "f” in free, stands for future. So be free Drugs won’t make you mature That is one reason why, I don’t try drugs! The “r” in free, stands for ruin If you take drugs freely, they’re going to ruin, all the things in life, to come. 'i .** That is why, I don’t try drugs! The double “e”, stands for you and me. We need to, stay together. So everything we do, isn’t being druggies together. Drugs scramble your brains, Wow, what a shame. That is why, I don’t try drugs! Ranessa Rceh Canyon Middle School 7th Grade I Am Drug Free For Many Reasons I don’t do drugs for many reasons. I think that to do drugs you are ruining your body. Your body is meant to be healthy, not loaded by harmful substances. I don’t do drugs because I know they screw up you mind. They can damage you mentally and physically. I have never witnessed any drugs, but from what I’ve seen on television and in the movies, everything you cam and gain is lost by the use of drugs. At the age of twelve I’m not about to do drugs in fear of ruining my life, losing friends and respect. Drugs give people superficial happy-go-lucky attitudes and highs. You don’t need drugs to be happy, you need a good attitude, friends, love and family. Don’t do drugs. Remain healthy and happy as you are. Jennifer Allison Canyon Middle School 7th Grade 8th Grade FIRST PLACE SECOND PLACE THIRD PLACE Why I Chose To Be Drug Free Life to mc means family, friends, school, sports and showing my steers. It seems I always stay busy which keeps mc from hanging out with the wrong crowd and getting mixed up in drugs and alcohol. The parties I attend, the places I go and the friends I hang around with have no interest or desire to drink or do drugs. I don’t need any foreign substances to be a better volleyball player or a better showman with my steers. Life is too precious for mc. Being drug free keeps the roof over my head, my life in order and mc knowing that everything I do each day is done by what I want to do, not what drugs and alcohol make mc do. Elizabeth Wcisman Canyon Middle School 8th Grade Why I Am Drug Free Many teenagers are involved with drugs, but I have chosen to live a drug free life. Someone close to mc has been involved with drugs and I have seen the effects of drugs on him and his entire family. He is trying toquit, but it is hard for him to regain his identity, initiative and self-respect. I want to reach my full potential in life and drugs will prevent this. Between all my activities, no time is left for drugs. I’m happy being mc; I don’t want to change myself. A drug free mc is the way to go! Alison Damarodas New Braunfels Middle School 8th Grade Why I Am Drug Free Using drugs is a stupid thing to do. There arc many other ways to have fun besides using drugs. I like to do such things as hunting, fishing and playing sports. Therefore, I sec no point in wasting any time and life by doing drugs. There is no reason that anyone should go and mess up their own life and the lives of other people by doing drugs. I was raised to know the difference between right and wrong and drugs arc definably wrong. I hope I can always be the same way that I am now, drug free.
