New Braunfels Herald Zeitung (Newspaper) - October 15, 2005, New Braunfels, Texas Page 4A — Herald-Zeitung — Saturday, October 15, 2005Aquifer authority registers 1,943 wells The Edwards Aquifer Authority has successfully registered 1,943 Edwards wells as part of its “Be Well Informed” campaign and encourages well owners to register their Edwards wells before die Dec. 31,2005, deadline if they have not already done so. Registration fees will be waived until that time, but wells not registered by the deadline will be subject to enforcement action. A well owner can register his or her well over the telephone by simply calling the toll-free number, 1-888-363-6037. A bilingual operator is available 24 hours per day, 7 days a week, to assist in the process. Well owners may also register online at www. If a landowner receives information regarding well registration but does not have an Edwards Aquifer well, the owner can contact the call center so authority staff can remove their information from the database. If a landowner is not sure his or her wells are completed in the Edwards Aquifer, contact Bob Hall, water resource coordinator, at 210-222-2204 or 1-800-292-1047. Registering wells is important for several reasons. First, registering wells is essential to proper management of the Edwards Aquifer. Second, registering wells will provide protection for well owners and for the Edwards Aquifer system in the event of contamination. Finally, the Edwards Aquifer Authority Act requires wells to be registered. Firefighters will spent Friday at McQueeney Elementary School educating children on fire and emergency safety. “The children are always extremely interested in our message and they love to look at the firetruck and equipment we bring to show them,” said Tim Bogisch, chief of the McQueeney Volunteer Fire Department. As a follow-up to this event, the McQueeney VFD invites parents to bring their children to an open house to be conducted from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at McQueeney Fire Station I at FM 725 and FM 78. “We will have equipment demonstrations and fire safety information available for ail who attend,” Bogisch said. “We encourage all residents of McQueeney to stop by and see what your donations are used for.” In conjunction with its open house, the McQueeney Volunteer Fire Department is having its annual membership drive. “We need members who are willing to serve as firefighters and emergency responders, as well as those who want to serve as support members,” Bogisch said.Canyon High offers coffee talk for parents Canyon High School parents are encouraged to take advantage of several mornings that have been set aside this school year to talk about college and careers for their children while enjoying a cup of coffee with school counselors.
