Texas Friday, October 9,1987Kennedy to be honored during services Sunday A special celebration is scheduled for Sunday to honor the Rev. J. Linwood Kennedy’s loth anniversary as senior pastor at First Protestant Church. 172 W. Coll. Kennedy received the call to become senior pastor at First Protestant Church in December 1976 and assumed his responsibilities on Ash Wednesday, Feb 23,1977. The celebration will also recognize the achievement of the departments during the IO years. Guest preacher at both the 8 and 10:30 a m. worship services will be Dr. Eugene Wehrli, president of Eden Theological Seminary and evangelical professor of Biblical Interpretation. Dr. Wehrli is dean for academic life at the seminary and is an ordained United Church of Christ minister. He received his AB degree from Oberlin College. his B D. from Eden Seminary Braunfels native to preach Sunday Rev. J. Linwood KennedyDr. Eugene Wehrli and his Ph D from the University of Chicago Following the 10 .30 worship, a luncheon honoring Kennedy will be held in the cafeteria of New Braunfels High School Rev. Christa Dixon of Guthrie. Okla., is celebrating her heritage by preaching on Sunday at New Braunfels Presbyterian Church Dixon an ordained Presbyterian minister, was bom and raised in Braunfels. Germany, where her mother, brothers and sisters still live. She and her husband Rev, Stephen Dixon, pastor of the First United Church in Guthrie, were married 25 years ago in the chapel of Burg Solms in Braunfels. Her brother, Rev. Hellmut Klingbeil, performed the ceremony. Rev. Klingbeil served the Burg Solms church for 25 years, later moving on to Wuppertal Dixon came to the United States in 1959 to study at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary under a Fulbright and World Council of Churches Scholarship She left Pittsburgh and went back to Bonn, where she earned her Ph D. While in Pittsburgh, she met her husband They were married in 1942 in Burg Solms and served as campus ministers there. They later came to central Illinois and now they are serving in Guthrie, Okla. The Dixons have one daughter, Cordelia, an administrator of a nursing home on the West Coast, and a son. Godwin, a student at Oklahoma State University Dr Dixon is a clinical fellow of the American Association of Pastoral Counselors, which is holding its annual fall convention in New Braunfels today through Sunday John Walker to be lay speaker Sunday In observance of Laity Sunday. John Walker, M D., will be the speaker at the morning worship service at First United Methodist Church, said Harold Zirkel, pastor of the church Although Walker is new to the community, he is already well known through his many community activities. and through his weekly col umn in the Sunday edition of the New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung Hts practice of psychiatry is divided between his office in New Braunfels and the Hill Country Hospital in San Antonio (Live Oak).
