D Texas, said Friday in a Senate speech he would oppose Bork s elevation to the court, criticizing Bork's record on civil rights and individual privacy Scott Polikov of the Texas Anti-Bork Coalition said Bentsen s "decision to oppose the Bork nomination most certainly will carry great weight with the rest of the swing votes on the Judiciary Committee and once the vote reaches the Senate floor the undec ided senators George Strake. chairman of the Texas Republican Parte blasted Bentsen s decision I think ifs a shame that Bentsen decided to go along with Sen Fd ward Kennedy and Sen Joe Biden instead of representing the wishes of a majority of Texans rn this issue. Strake said Texas other senator Republican Phil Gramm, said he will support Bork ( Titles of Robert Bork and Ronald Reagan -leek to gain a philosophical victory in the Senate that they were denied bv the American people rn the I;*..d two presidential elec tions Gramm said Polikov introduced at a news con ference three University of Texas constitutional scholars who spoke against President Reagan s nonuna t ion of Pork to ’he Supreme t ourt Douglas haycock, a professor at the UT Law School, said "taken as a whole. Judge Bork’s views are ex treme by any standard.” "One of the Supreme Court's central tasks is to protect the constitutional rights of individuals and minorities Judge Bork is fundamen tally hostile to that task and that is why he should not be confirmed haycock said He said 26. or about half of the UT law faculty, had signed a letter op posing Bork and a number of others had indicated they, too, were against the nomination lie said he thought five UT law professors are strong Bork supporters Law Professor Sanford I^evinson said if Bork is confirmed. ‘ We would be stuck, for his lifetime with a judge who has repeatedly rejected with demeaning rhetoric, many of the most important and inspiring) decisions of the Supreme Court over the past 60 years ” "To cast a vote for Robert Bork is the equivalent of an arms control treaty without verification. Levin-son said Government instructor Mark Graber said Bork until very recently had held constitutional opinions "that are uniformly regarded as un surpassed ugliness ” "What is remarkable about Justice Bork and for that matter Attorney General Ed Meese s interpretation of original intent is the constitutional framers always end up .sounding like Edwin Meese or Justice Bork — they don’t wind up sounding very much like Thomas Jefferson ” Graber said Asked what Reagan might do if Bork s nomination is rejected Laycock said. "There are very few people the president could come back with whose views are as extreme as Bork ” However said Polikov of the Anti-Bork Coalition "We might have to gear back up for another fight ” ( OS I R I Bl TOK N A M F { OS f R I Bl I OR ADDRESS / PLEDGE TO THE COMAL COUNTY COMMUNITY FUND S \ Hjiaruc I bf Paid I xal Amouni ol Pledge Paid So* Date & a Weekly S a Momhlv S __  . - (Juarierlv S -Other S _____ Please Return I his C opy lo COMAL COUNTY COMMUNITY FUND Bi □ Payroll deduction Employer (lf payroll deduction) □ Bill Me \i*nuiu'r <»/ ( nnirihuhtr (Return lo ( ommiinlt| Fundi P 0 BOX 310614 NEW BRAUNFELS TEXAS 78131-0614 I1 /ou haven* made /ou’- contribution or pledge for this year please clip and mail this pledge card today Thanes to you things can get better - Your ComFund Board o* Directors Canyon Lake teen-ager allegedly fires at cars after dispute at home \ t any on Lake teenager reported Iv fat tx! with problem* .it home vt'fiimt his anger .it *i    of un 'suq*** ting motorists Thursday night firing a gun at arx! hitting their vehicles ti*‘tore eventualiv teeing .if rested In Comal i ountv jail as of F rtdav evening was J a son Wav ne Johi -wk I?
