Remember loved ones during holiday season
Tis the season for family, friends and giving of yourself.
Last week, we sat down to Thanksgiving — enjoying a dinner with friends and family and reminiscing of all that we were thankful for.
Tomorrow starts the Christmas countdown — only 25 days left to pull off the perfect holiday.
The day after Thanksgiving is traditional for shopping, football games, trimming the tree, baking Christmas cookies, listening to carols and, best of all, eating the leftover turkey and all the fixings.
While stewing the turkey carcass and making endless trips to the attic to pull out all the tree trimmings and ornaments last week; I asked myself if the effort was worth it.
As I trimmed the tree with the kids getting underneath my feet, making a mess out of the string of lights, I sighed and held my temper in check, still asking, “is this worth it?”
But my youngest child, Ashley, changed the mood quickly when she held the angel tree topper in her small hands and said, “Momma, it is time to put her on top of the tree. We did it!”
My heart wanted to melt reading the excitement in her eyes and sensing all the hope and expectations this Christmas will bring her.
As a child growing up in a

large family, we made a big to-do about anything and everything.
I remember one year that money was pretty tight.
Momma made all our
And even though I wanted something store bought, I cherished everything she made me.
It was more special when all my friends were envious of her handiwork.
The lessons I learned at a young age are to garnish your life, deck your heart, trim your tree’s limbs (your children) and enjoy this festive season.
This year, try to celebrate and honor your life’s work by recognizing that your family is the most important aspect of your life. Let’s spruce ourselves up, spending as much time on ourselves as we do decorating the tree. Let your spirit shine upon your family and bless all whom are touched by your kindness.
I lave a great holiday season as you embrace your family and those you love.
