Twinkling Christmas lights reflect in the San Antonio River during the holiday Holiday River Festival, which runs through Dec. 31. Candlelight outlines the River Walk at sundown during Fiesta de las
Luminaries, held two weekends in December. Luminaries are made by placing lighted candles in paper sacks partially filled with sand.
The Gruene Merchants Association plans to keep the German tradition of “Gemutlichkeit” alive with the Gruene Christmas Market Days.
On Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 7 and 8 from IO a.m. until 6 pjn. a special arts and crafts tent will display unique handmade gift items from over 80 vendors. The 23 shops and restaurants in the historic district as well as food vendors, special entertainment, hayrides and photos with Cowboy Kringle will make the festival fun for the entire family and a good opportunity to get Christmas shopping done.
In conjunction with the festival market days, Gruene Hall will feature music on Saturday and Sunday afternoons and a special dance on Saturday
evening with Wayne Toups and the Zydecajuns. For more information call 629-5077.
Local entertainment on tap for this weekend includes:
• County Line Band (country) from 9 p.m.-l am. Saturday at the Watering Hole Saloon.
• R J. Verette (country and variety) from 9 pjn.-l am. Saturday at the Prickly Pear at Holiday Inn.
• Ponty Bone & the Squee/nones from 4-8 p.m. Sunday (no cover) at Gruene Hall.
