An evening of terror
Contest will frighten crows
The Gristmill Restaurant, gearing up for its sixth annual Scarecrow Contest, encourages people to enter the most unusual, creative scarecrows imaginable and to help the United Way of Comal County at the same time.
Deadline for entry forms is Nov. 16. For every entry the Gristmill will donate $5 for each entry to the United Way of Comal County. To enter, a
written description of the scarecrow must be submitted, and the scarecrows must be weather resistant.
Scarecrows will be on display from Nov. 16 through Dec. 11 and will be judged by the general public. Judging blanks will be available at the Gristmill, and no purchase is necessary. Votes will be counted and winners will be determined Monday, Dec. 9.

Gristmill cm Nov. 16 between IO am. and IO p.m., and they warn that while they will watch as best they can, hang ’em at your own risk.
First place in the contest receives $100 with four places receiving cash awards. Honorable mentions get dinner for two at the Gristmill.

The Retired Senior Volunteer Program will sponsor a bus trip to Fredericksburg and Windcrest Tuesday, Dec. IO. People in the New Braunfels area will board a chartered bus at the parking lot of Springtown Mall near Furr’s Cafeteria in San Marcos at I pm.
The trip will include three hours of browsing, shopping and eating supper at shops in downtown Fredericksburg. From Fredericksburg the shoppers will travel to Windcrest subdivision near San Antonio to view Christmas lights.
The bus should return to San Marcos by 10:15 pm. Cost of the trip, which includes the bus ride and hot chocolate and cookies, is $23 per person. To make reservations call the RSVP office at (512) 379-0300.
'An Evening With Poe’
SEGUIN — Tickets for the student-directed production of “An Evening With Edgar Allan Poe” are on sale at Texas Lutheran College.
Performances will be held Nov. 14, 15 and 16 at 7:30 pm. in the Schuech Fine Arts Center’s Wupperman Little Theatre. Senior Dechclle Norris, a communication arts major with an
emphasis in theatre, is directing the production, which dramatizes three short stories and three poetic pieces by Poe.
Ticket prices are $5 for adults and $3 for students and senior adults. Tickets may be purchased at the Jackson Auditorium box office from 2-4 pm. Monday through Friday or may be reserved by calling 372-8180.
Gruene Country Christmas

SWT art exhibit
SAN MARCOS — “Coming Back” is an appropriate exhibit title as three former Southwest Texas State University Art Department faculty members, display some of their work through Nov. 21 in the University Art Gallery.
The works of Alex Kritselis, Caryl St. Ama, and Craig Anderson are featured in the exhibit.
Anderson was a professor of drawing ami video at SWT from 1979-81. Kritselis was an art instructor for IO years at SWT. St. Ama was an instructor of painting at SWT in 1984.
