NFW YORK (AP) — Roy Halladay bounced back from A-ball to the AL Cy Young Award in little more than two years.
His pitching was so messed up during spring training in 2001 that the Toronto Blue lays left him in Dunedin to work out his troubles, causing I lalladay to wonder if his baseball career was at an end.
Halladay was an overwhelming winner of the American League Cy Young Award on Tuesday, easily beating Chicago’s Esteban Loaiza.
“When I went down that far, and really had no idea what I was going to do to get it back until I found that help, (it) was a little scary for me,” he said.
After winning a major league-high 22 games, Halladay received;26 first-place votes and two seconds for 136 points in balloting by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America.
I lalladay s big year included -a 15-game winning streak.
I Ie credited former Blue Jays pitching coach Mel Queen for curing his mechanics and sports psychologist Harvey Dorfman for straightening out his head.
“I think both of those go hand in hand as what made the difference for me,” said I lalladay, who has the most wins in the major leagues over the past two seasons.
The 26-year-old right-hander had never won more than eight games in a season when he went 0-2 with a 9.23 ERA during spring training in 2001.UNICORNS

Unicorns taking Trojans seriously
Trojans are a very good team with a lot of team speed.
“They are no slouch,” Walker said. “All the Cinderella’s are gone in the playoffs.” Anderson brings a 7-3 record into the game, including a 6-0 record in District 26-4A.
New Braunfels is 7-3 and 5-1 in District 25-4A. Both teams won regular-season district championships.
Despite last season’s success, Eberhard said the Unicorns can not count on a win just by showing up Friday.
“It will take us ail being on our game,” he said. “We need a total team effort.”
While the Unicorns are not guaranteed a victory, Eberhard said he feels the team is peaking at the right time and is in a good position to make another run at a state title. He said that after a season of ups and downs, the Unicorns were finally showing consis-

tency, especially on offense.
“If we play our best games, we can go a long way with this team,” he said. “All of us seniors,’ we’ve come a long
way. If we can stick together, we can do it.”
The game will begin at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Westlake High School in Austin.A & BHearing Aid & Audiology Center
