New Braunfels Herald Zeitung (Newspaper) - November 8, 1995, New Braunfels, Texas HerakJ-Zeitung a Wednesday, November 8,1995 □ 7 APavers make their debut on the Plaza to rave reviews, now available as Christmas gifts By SUSAN FLYNT ENGLAND Staff Writer Take a walk around the plaza and you will see something new — bricklike stone pavers lining the sidewalk. You may also find the perfect Christmas gift for someone who has everything, or one who deserves a very special gift. A crowd of 50 or more braved chilly winds on Main Plaza Thursday to celebrate the plaza pavers. They don’t just beautify the plaza now, said Main Street Director K. C. Crandall — proceeds from the paver project will fund the restoration and beautification of downtown sidewalks for the future. “The sale of pavers is our biggest fund-raiser for the sidewalk project,” said Joyce Hendricks, paver project organizer and motivating force. The pavers and granite tablets can be engraved with names for a donation, and a special holiday sales event is under way. The money raised will help contribute to the downtown sidewalk project. Already immortalized on the square are the first wave of New Braunfels’ German founders, the city’s mayors Individual Paver Individual Paver ('finial Co. Church Comal Co School through Paul E. Fraser Jr., families, departed loved ones, and more. A section of pavers and a granite tablet are devoted to the Bruno Schwab family. “I thought this was a way to enshrine my family,” Schwab said. “That way my children can come over there and see the whole family tree.” Volunteers spent hundreds of hours making the paver program a reality, K. C. Crandall. “Joyce Hendricks has put in over 500 hours on this project,” said Main Street Chair Nora Morales. “She come into this project with her sleeves rolled up.” Volunteer Doris Rhoades received a plaque honoring her contribution. Archives Anonymous By MICHELLE OATMAN JOHN MOLER, Photographer Special to the Herald-Zeitung This has got to be one of the cutest pictures we’ve found but there are no names attached to this adorable group of tap dancers, AA-95-220. Let’s see if we can ID all these little dress-up dolls. Now we know you can surely identify these five gorgeous cheerleaders from 1956, AA-95-221. Don’t they look great in their fall uniforms?! We sure were happy about the response we received for our fine men and women in uniform last week, AA- AA-95-220 95-218. Both Gilbert Aldana and Lee Wamecke gave us great help!
