Commissioners approve tax overpayment refund By Mark Koopmans The Herald-Zeitung Comal County Commissioners — minus County judge Danny Scheel who is on vacation until May 31 — approved all 13 items on its regularly scheduled meeting Thursday. Items approved included the following: ■ Refunding nearly $17,500 to LandAmericaTax and Flood, a residential title insurance firm in New Braunfels, after the company overpaid its 2006 taxes. ■ Approval of an interlocal agreement between the county and the Water Oriented Recreation District pertaining to Nicholas Land-ing, an eight-acre site owned by the county. The agreement calls for the county to maintain any existing infrastructure such as the roadway and signage. WORD has agreed to provide and maintain, among other things, temporary sanitary facilities and trash receptacles on the property. ■ Allowing Precinct 4 Commissioner Jan Kennady to sign a contract for the purchase of about 20 acres of land adjacent to the Jumbo Evans sports park, which is a half-mile north of the Spring Branch Post Office, on the west side of U.S. 281. The land will be purchased for $7,500 per acre, said Kennady, who added that various sports organizations already have expressed an interest in utilizing the land in the future. ■ Scheduling of a public hearing for 8:15 a.m., June 7. The hearing will consider the placement of certain regulatory signs on county-maintained roads. Commissioners also heard a presentation about the overall condition and health of Comal County’s retirement plan. For 2007-08, the county is expected to contribute 8.61 percent of its payroll toward the plan, down from 8.86 percent for 2006-07, said Rim Doyal, a representative from Texas County and District Retirement System, which is the county’s plan administrator. Comal County Commission meetings take place at 8:15 a.m. every Thursday in the Commissioner’s Courtroom, 199 Main Plaza in New Braunfels.
