A what pleases me most is people participated in this Campaign and they re showing they want control Over their own District results on Page 2a the tax failed by More than 85 percent with 2,453 votes against it and 401 for it. Supporters of the lax had argued it was needed to help attract Industry to the area. Chamber officials had suggested its $1.2 million a year in Revenue could have gone for a number of items including Airport development and construction of an Industrial Park. Chamber officials said the Board that would administer the funds would be appointed and controlled by City Council. But opponents argued the tax would Hurt the person who could afford it the least and that the Public should not subsidize private development.
