Have any of you ever stopped to wonder how many true friends you have? For centuries, the saying, “You can count your friends on one hand," has been popular Jn many countries. Why? Could it be that we have justified the word friendship and allowed the true meaning of friendship to become watered down or less meaningful?
When I speak of friendship, I speak with bluntness of a true friendship. With the honesty that must characterize relations between friends who respect each other and who have each other’s interests at heart.
Most of you are quite familiar with the following phrase: “Friendship is really more precious than gold. There is no man so poor that he is not rich if he has a friend, and there is no man so rich that he is not poor without a friend.”
Friendships are not easy to maintain; however, if you have a friend you have a real treasure. To maintain your friendship, look with your heart and see with understanding. It once was said by Emerson, “The only way to have a friend is to be one."
You can not expect a one-sided relationship and have a true friendship. As you receive kindness and understanding, you must reciprocate. In many circumstances you will not receive the same gestures of kindness from the friend whom you have helped; however, I assure you that your good-hearted intentions will be returned to you by other sources—possibly a total
Throughout the centuries, writers have tried to define the essence of friendship. Their efforts give us insights, but it is only through our experiences in the true world and by having a friend that we come to have a true understanding of what friendship really is.
Friendship has no barriers and can not be broken by time or distance. One thing we all know about friendship is that we all need it. It is a precious thing to have.
Many people touch our lives but a few touch our hearts. Friends are like roses—there are a dozen kind. In life, you will meet many kinds of friends; however, it is the people who go along with you in life and stay with you through the good times and bad that are invaluable. These you will call unconditional friends.
When I call someone a friend, I make a commitment to that statement. A commitment to honor, respect and trust the full meaning of friendship. One thing that should exist in friendship is the respect of the trust. “Let’s plant our seeds of friendship, and prepare your ground with patience, clear the path with understanding, plant your seed with care, you cultivate your ground with kindness; you depend on God’s word for light and you shower it with love.
Today, I dedicate everything that I have mentioned to you to my friend LUCRECIA, whom I have lost. I remember her with not only sadness but happiness and satisfaction that we were true friends. When we said hello, she would say, “Hello, friend."

The meaning of a Christian friendship
By CRISTABELL WEST

In a Christian friendship, one of the strongest points is that the relationship can bring people together, closer to God—as long as you are willing to do it together and include everybody without being cliquish. For example, getting together to taste foreign foods, praying together, making robes and blankets for those in the hospital, or making food baskets for the needy.
There is always the comfort felt when a friend says, “I will pray for you.” I feel this should only be said if this is a true feeling. In the book Bein§ a Christian Friend, it is said that in the Christian friendship there are not only two, there are three—because you count Jesus first, your friend second and yourself last.
Do You Have True Friends?
Are you reaHy a friend? For example, if something wonderful happens to you today, which of your friends do you go to first? Who do you turn to with your most personal problems? When you are recuperating in the hospital, would that friend be there for you?
A friendship needs a check-up once in a while—just like a medical checkup.
“Friendships that have stood the test—
Time and change—are surely best...
But old friends, alas! may die,
New friends must their place supply.
Cherish friendship in your breast—
New is good but old is best;
Make new friends, but keep the old;
Those are silver, these are gold.
—Joseph Parry, poet
Out there in the world...
There are many who call themselves our friends.
We should be sure, before it goes too far...
That everyone understands.
Friendship is more than just knowing someone...
Or seeing them every day at work.
It’s a commitment to really caring...
And being there if they have a need.
It’s filling that need...
Not because we have to, but because we want to.
It’s trying your best to see the best in them...
Letting small differences be just that, Small.
Sometimes it means telling them the truth...
Even though it may hurt.
Then being there to soothe the hurt...
It seems to me that friendship is just another word for Love.
* ...the greatest of these is love.(1 Corinthians 13:13)
* As gold more splendid from the fire appears, thus friendship brightens by the length of years.—Carlyle
* There is no better looking glass than an old friend.—Fuller
