New Braunfels Herald Zeitung (Newspaper) - May 2, 1993, New Braunfels, Texas 8-A HERALD-ZEITUNG SUNDAY, MAY 2. 1993 Partnership Exchange Program participants and Wurstfest officials gathered in the Opa Room include Wurstfest President-Elect Joe Kuehler, Jason Owens, Cale Baese, Partnership Exchange Committee Chairman Fritz Welsch, Amy McRinnon and Cassie Behrendt Students prepare for summer exchange Four students have been selected to take part in the annual Wurstfest Association Partnership Student Exchange Program with Braunfels, Germany this summer. They are Cale Baese and Cassie Behrendt from the Comal Independent School District and Jason Owens and Amy McKinnon from the New Braunfels Independent School District. This exchange first began in 1977 and has sent four students to Germany each of the past sixteen years. According to Fritz Welsch, chairman of the Partnership Committee,, the four students were selected following personal interviews with the students, their parents and Committee members on Tuesday, April 6. A total of ten applications were considered. Participants and their parents attended a briefing on Monday, o receive instructions regarding their trip, visit with students and parents who took part in the exchange program last year. The students will leave from San Antonio on July 8 and return from Germany with their counterparts on Aug. 6. The German students will remain in New Braunfels until Sept. 3. Funding for the program is provided exclusively by the Wurstfest Association of New Braunfels, a non-profit corporation designed to promote local commerce, especially through tourism and dedicated to the promotion and preservation of our German heritage.
