HeraH-Zotung photos by JOHN HUSETH GOP, Dems stake out positions at county conventions BY CRAIG HAMMETT Staff Writer Republicans and Democrats of Comal County met last Saturday in their county conventions to pass resolutions and elect delegates for their respective state conventions. State Senator Jeff Wentworth spoke to about IOO Republicans at the Comal Senior Citizens Center thanking them for support in the past past primary. George Bokomey, publicity chairman for the county Republicans, said they addressed 21 resolutions. Bokor-ney said they voted to retain the current health care system and oppose the plan by President Clinton. They also voted 17 delegates to the state convention June 10-11 in Fort Worth. The smaller District 21 convention adopted four resolutions, two on health care. Democrats met at the commissioners courtroom said Gloria Sasser. They elected 19 delegates to the state convention in Fort Worth June 3-4. Resolutions passed supporting a universal health care plan, a Social Security information plan, and a call for a balanced budget No endorsement was. made in the senate primary runoff between Richard Fisher and Jim Mattox. “We like to stay even and not endorse at this point,” Sasser said. Obituaries Bobby Jean Darby Bobbie Jean Darby passed away at home at the age of 58 on Saturday March 26,1994. She was of the Baptist faith. Bobbie retired from General Tire & Rubber Co. in 1983. Her survivor arc husband of 25 years, Steve Darby, children Sharon Harrison and husband Mike of Sattler, Melodic England and husband Dick of Pasadena, grandchildren Cody Harrison, and Amie and Stephen England. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday March 29, 1994, 2 p.m. at the Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home at Sattler, Texas. Memorials may be sent to the Bear Creek Boy’s Club at Canyon Lake. Doeppenschmidt Funeral Homa Thelma Jessie Rank Thelma Jessie Rank, age 91, of New Braunfels, formerly of Seguin, died Sunday March 27, 1994, in New Braunfels. Mrs. Rank was a member of First Presbyterian Church; The Order of Eastern Star, Seguin Chapter #555, Nogalis Garden Club; New Braunfels Garden Club; Eagle Ladies Auxiliary, Rebecca Lodge; Senior Citizens in New Braunfels; A ARP; Alpine An League in South Fork, Colo.; also Christian Women’s Organization in New Braunfels. She was a Past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Seguin Chapter #555. She is survived by her daughter Ruth Beverly Becker of New Braunfels; grandchildren Sherri Becker Owen and husband Robin of Georgetown, Erie Blair Becker of New Braunfels, Ch.istopher Wayne Becker and wife Kerry Gams of Georgetown; great grandchildren Ryan L. Owen, Devin S. Owen, Trey P. Owen; brothers K. R. Simmons of Rockdale and J. D. Simmons of Lexington, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond L. Rank and one brother, Wallace Simmons. Funeral services will be held Wednesday March 30,1994, at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Seguin with Rev Carl McCauley officiating. Interment will be at the San Geronimo Cemetery under the auspices of Easter Star, Seguin Chapter #555. She will lie in state at Goetz Funeral Home after 4 p m. Monday. She will also lie in state one hour before the service at the church. Pallbearers will be Eric Blair Becker, Christopher Wayne Becker, Robin B. Owen, Randy Simmons, Henry Mills III and David Shamer-hom. Memorials may be given to First Presbyterian Church of Seguin or the charity of one’s choice. Goetz Funeral Homa Jot# Rodriguez Sr. Jose Rodriguez Sr., age 72, of New Braunfels^ died Monday March 28, 1994, at the St. Luke’s Hospital in San Antonio. He was bom July 9, 1921, in Pharr, Texas, to Ruperto Rodriguez and Martina Garza Rodriguez. He married Martina Ramos on April 27,1944, in Kerrville. He had been a resident of New Braunfels for the past 18 years. He had retired from U.S. Gypsum as a truck driver. He was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church and was a W W II veteran, having served in the Army. He is survived by his wife Martina (Martha) R Rodriguez; daughter Maria A. Rodriguez of Austin; sons and daughters-in-law Jose and Sylvia Rodriguez of Austin, Ruperto and Yolanda Rodriguez of Austin, Gregorio A. and Rebecca S. Rodriguez of Genoa, Ohio; sister Alberta Montalvo of Bakersfield, Calif.; and 12 grandchildren A rosary will be recited Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. at the Zoeller Funeral Home. Funeral services are Wednesday at IO a m. at the Holy Family Catholic Church with interment to follow in the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. Visitation continues until 9:30 a m. Wednesday, at which time the procession will depart the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. WhikA Virginia F. Gabbard Mrs. Virginia F. Gabbard, age 80, of Ardmore, Okla., passed away on March 25,1994. She is survived locally by a son, Jim Gabbard and wife Linda, and a granddaughter Zoe. She is survived by another son, Jay, and wife Susan of Oklahoma City; a sister Mary Nelson of Ardmore; two brothers, David McCray of Swansboro, N.C., and Waymon McCray of Owasso, Okla. Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Ardmore on April I at IO a m. Suggested memorials are: Hospice, American Cancer Society, or National Association for Mediation in Education (NAME), 205 Hamoshire House, Amherst, MA. Harvey Douglas Funeral Home, Ardmore, Okla. Anita T. Blanchard Anita T. Blanchard of Victoria, age 79, died Saturday March 26,1994. She was bom Jan. 9,1915, in New Braunfels. She was retired from Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. She was preceded by her husband Louis A. Blanchard, brother Norman Pfullman; father Oscar Pfullman; and mother Gerda Bactge Pfullman. Graveside service will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio at I p.m. with Deacon Robert Galan officiating. The family received friends at the funeral home on Monday from 2-3 p m.
