By CRAIG HAMMETT Staff Writer Canyon and Smithson Valley High schools renewed their rivalry on die academic playing field recently, as Canyon High finished in sixth place at die Texas Academic Decathlon competition in San Antonio, one place ahead of district rival Smithson Valley. The Rangers of Smithson Valley had captured the regional championship a couple of months ago, but the Cougars of Canyon turned the tables at the state meet. “We kind of peaked at the right time,” said Canyon Coach Larry We’re Meeting St. Arm’s Christian Mothers Attar Society will meet on Thursday. National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Chapter 666, will not meet March 17. Points are accumulated through the various events. In the Super Quiz portion, the final big event, the Canyon team placed fourth while SVHS took seventh. Individual honors included Canyon’s Tim Ousley, whose total earned him fifth highest overall at the meet, including a bronze (third place) in mathematics. Canyon’s Travis White took Retired Eagles Activities Club will meet March 19 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Eagles Hall. Members bring sandwiches, and those having birthday or anniversary bring a cake or cookies. In fact, Friendswood students took home first, second and third indivdual overall medals in each of the three classes.
