San Antonio's major contention, Chief Justice James P. Alexander said in his opinion, was that the case was void since it was an attempt by the city commissioners to encumber the city’s electric power system without a vote of the people. ... GBRA contented that San Antonio had previously agreed to the lease contract as a condition to its right to acquire the property and that it acquired the property burdened with the lease. The GBRA assigned the lease on the power plant on to the Lower Colorado River Authority. ... Under terms of the lease contract, the GBRA would pay the city of San Antonio $250,000 annually for the plant. The contract carried the stipulation that San Antonio would purchase sufficient current to pay the lease, and San Antonio had the right to contract current necessary for the full operation of its electric system. Ten bids on construction of the new Canyon High School were received and the Comal Independent School District Board of Trustees during a special meeting Thursday, March 2. ... Contractors and subcontractors crowded the board room. The lowest base bid received came from Mesquite Construction Company of San Antonio at $1,624,889. The highest bid received was $1,905,000. Comal County veterinarians, in cooperation with the Comal County Health Department, will hold a series of rabies immunization clinics this Saturday. ... According to County Sanitarian Dr. E.A. Grist the veterinarians and the department are trying to prevent rabies by helping pet owners take the precautionary measures of having the pets immunized. Mayor Alves has held this position for the past six years has been in office during the time of the change from the old style form of government to the Commission form which is now in use, and during all this time he has been always in his office, giving constant attention to even the smallest details which in any way effected the interests of the city. The improvements made and under way during the terms of his office atf ample testimonial to the efficient manner in which he has looked after the city’s needs. The Comal County ex-students of the University of Texas enjoyed a banquet Thursday evening at the New Braunfels Club rooms in celebration of Texas independence Day. the color scheme of orange and white was carried out in the decorations, the table in a shape of a T was decorated in Jonquils and white Freezias. The menu consisted of three courses, Oyster cocktail and wafers, chicken a la salad, tomato aspic, potato chips, olives, crackers, angel food and cafe nair.
