New Braunfels Herald Zeitung (Newspaper) - March 11, 2011, New Braunfels, Texas Friday, March 11, 2011 — Herald-Zeitung — Page 3 OBITUARIES Paid advertisements impiumi u 'no n u Ralph Wade Boughton By Melissa Boughton “No memory is ever alone; it’s at the end of a trail of memories, a dozen trails that each have their own associations.” — Louis L’Amour My Grandpa is the greatest man I have ever known. He is the greatest man many have ever known. Whether he knew it or not, Grandpa touched the lives of every person he met. He was a role model and an inspiration. Though his loss fills us with great sorrow, we will forever remember his lohn Wayne blue eyes, war stories, endless knowledge, love and words of wisdom. We can find consolation in our good memories and keep his spirit living forever through the stories we pass on to our own grandchildren. Ralph Wade Boughton, 81, of Ingleside died unexpectedly in a car accident Monday afternoon. Retired as a decorated war veteran, Ralph served his country in the United States Marine Corps for more than 20 years. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1948, and served in both the Vietnam and Korean wars. Ralph was infantry man in the 2nd Marine division. He also was an optometrist, a game warden, and in a flame-throwing unit. He retired from the military in as a First Sergeant in 1968. Among his many decorations, Ralph received two bronze stars, and a purple heart for saving a man from a burning plane at Camp Leje-une, N.C. He loved serving his country and stood proud as a Marine, but Ralph’s greatest passion was teaching. “Mr. B” taught Auto Mechanics at Flour Bluff High School, where he met and influenced every person that walked through his shop doors. He praised and kept in touch with his students like they were his own kids until the very end. He was an intelligent man who loved to give. He was selfless and kind. He was an endless book of knowledge, and his love of reading was no secret, with stacks of books scattered throughout his house. Ralph was married for almost 60 years to the love of his life and mother of his eight children, Hazel Boughton. Bom in Peotone, IL on Sept. 14, 1930, he was the son of Robert Boughton and Mabelle Magruder. He was preceded in death by his parents, his infant son, and his brother Robert Boughton. Those left to honor his memory are his wife, Hazel Boughton, of Ingleside; his sons, Ralph Boughton lr. and wife Elaine, of Flour Bluff; Michael Boughton and wife Kellye, of Corsicana; and Robert Boughton Sr. and wife Jodie, of Ingleside; his daughters, Paula Brown and husband Tucker, of Middlesex, N.C.; Kathy Terry, of Flour Bluff; Kelly Bonawitz and husband Bill, of Corpus Christi; and Cindy Wesley, of San Marcos; daughter-in-law Mimi Boughton, of New Braunfels; 24 grandchildren; 18 greatgrandchildren; one great-great grandson; and many friends. My Grandpa loved his family dearly, and could talk your ears off about how proud of everyone he was. He loved being a husband, parent and grandparent. He was a great teacher to have, not only for his students, but also for his family. He will be greatly missed, and as we look back on all the memories we have and smile, we can be thankful for the long, full life he was able to lead and share with us. He passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at Eden Home at the age of 103. By J. Louise Larson The Herald-Zeitung Inspiration is free this weekend, in the form of performances by the African Children’s Choir at First United Methodist Church in New Braunfels. “The African Children’s Choir is an organization that provides children ages 9 to 11 from several African countries to come and share their music with churches and civic organizations. They go all over the United States — they’re non-denomination-al,” said Pastor Keith Wyatt. The concert will be a mixture of well-loved children’s songs, traditional African songs and dances, as well as favorite gospel tunes. There is no charge for the concert. A free-will offering will be collected to help provide education, teacher train-ing, care and emergency relief for more than 7,000 children in Uganda, Kenya, South Africa, Sudan, Rwanda, Nigeria and Ghana. “These children are all from very poor families — most of them have lost sib lings or parents to disease, starvation or war,” Wyatt said. “They were at our church about eight years ago. They put on a marvelous program — they’re so enthusiastic, and sharing their style of their music and their joy is wonderful,” Wyatt said. The group represents 35 schools in seven African nations — a total of 8,000 students. “The African Children’s Choir has been working with the most vulnerable children in Africa for 25 years, raising awareness of the plight of Africa’s orphaned and abandoned, but also showing the beauty, dignity and potential of each African child. They are a voice for the millions of children suffering in Africa," said Mark B. Leita of New Braunfels. “It really is a treat to host this wonderful group of children into our great community,” he said. The choir will perform at 6:30 p.m. Saturday in the sanctuary for a full concert, and on Sunday morning, the choir will be featured in the 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. services.
