No iustice for Texaco
To the editor:
As a stockholder in Texaco Oil, it appalls me that so-called “justice” has been upheld in the Texas court system. Justice as defined by Webster’s Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary is the “impartial adjustment of conflicting claims or the assignment of merited rewards or punishment ” From all published reports, the adjustment of conflicting claims was definitely not settled impartially, nor was there an assignment of merit reward or punishment To bring a company the size and stature of Texaco to the near brink of bankruptcy under the guise of Texas justice is absurd Such an unconstitutional award which exceeds the total value of the Getty Oil Company assets has no place rn the American judicial system
The Feb 20 article from Wall Street Journal is indicative of the feelings and support for justice as understood outside the Texas courts. The State of Texas is being beseiged with unemployment problems arising from the declining oil exploration by major oil producers To force companies like Texaco to reconsider doing business in the state because of the ostrich philosophy” in the Texas courts is the height of foolishness My pleas to you are to help in doing whatever you can now to remedy the wrongs w hich were done in the name of justice

Party went wrong
Dear Parents l>o you really know where your children are During the weekend of Jan 17 they may have been in our nome while we were out of state Impromptu gatherings were hdd in our home during that weekend by nigh school and college aged youths What these people did in our home and to our home can only ie Jo-a r i i>ed as shocking and ti •«-- . >t only did some par
tus- ut alcohol, marijuana and harder drugs -»ome also engaged in or watched a perverted sexual act
It is our understanding, based upon reliable sources, that this is not the first gathering of this type to be held in New Braunfels, but that these kinds of “parties” take place frequently. We are outraged that these young people trashed our home and refused to leave the premises when asked by a family member They took our clothes from the closet, urinated and poured alcohol on them; they egged the inside and outside of our home, they stole from us; they emptied the inside and outside of our refrigerators and pantry. they smeared jelly in our closet; they broke our dishes; vomited on and soiled our furniture, they stole and consumed our prescribed medications (even those for our pets); they spread barbecue sauce on our carpeting, they broke doors and engaged*in numerous other destruc tive acts In general, they used our home as a type of "animal house ”
The type of psychological ramifies lions that our family suffered, not to mention the financial, due to the irresponsible behavior of some of these youths is unjustifiable Each day. as we walk through our home we are constantly reminded that some “punks” invaded our privacy and us ed our most private possession, our home, as their “party house ” This has been an emotionally devasting experience for us Through our adversity, we are hop mg to reach out to you to be aware of what is actually happening to our community, state and world If we are able to reach even one parent or child, then the exposure of this incident will be worth any trauma we have suffered Parents, do not believe that this kind of thing can on ly happen to someone else For too long these kinds of “gatherings have gone on in New Braunfels, only to be covered up or swept under the carpet of other homes We could not sleep at night know mg that we did not attempt to reach this community We feel we cannot just give up on our youth They are perhaps the most talented and intelligent of all times but for many, there is no direction and “peer pressure has replaced •family pressure " Individuality and leadership have been replaced by lack of conscience of right or wrong and a desire for sensationalism What a sacrifice'
We want to thank the New Braunfels Police Department. New Braunfels Independent School District specifically New Braunfels High School > and numerous concern ed parents who have supported our efforts as we attempt to investigate this happening and have the guilty parties made responsible for their actions

The proper role for the president's wife
lecoming increasingly clear that we too ambitious why does your secretary spend ‘ How did it go today0”
It’s becoming increasingly clear that we should change the working habits of our presidents
A president shouldn't live and work in the White House Instead, he should have a home somewhere out in the suburbs and gel up in the morning and commute to his job like most peo
With that system, we wouldn't have all this bickering and sniping between Nancy Reagan the president s spouse and Donald Began the president’s chief of staff And the world would be spared the embarrass mg sight of a president caught in the middle and looking as henpecked as Dagwood Bumstead The problem is caused by the whole crowd be mg under the same roof one big. unhappy family
I'm not saying it's Nancy Reagan s fault although someone might remind her that she wasn t elected to any office But like any executive s wife she s interested rn her husband s job That's only natural What is unnatural is that she s right there in his place of employment, practically looking over his shoulder picking up the office gossip talking to her snitches and tattletales, and plot ting against Don Regan Imagine what the American business com munity would be like if every chief executive s wife spent the day hanging around outside of his office
I think that young second vice president looksAndy Rooney
too ambitious why does your secretary spend so much time alone with you0 the comptroller and the personnel director were whispering again I'm sure they it plotting against you Your (ace seemed ruddy when you came back from lunch how many martinis0 I didn t know she was so young It would be disastrous Across America, ex ecutives would be shouting “Confound it woman constant meddling prying put me on the spot can t gel anything done mind your own won t take it anymore you get the house I get the car goodbye That s what seems to be happening in the White House with the president s wife telling tattletale George W ill that she s going to get nd of Began and Regan leaking stones that she s nagging the president With her lurking about Usa wonder any real work gels done Bul all this could be avoided if she remained at home and the president when to work in the morning
I rn not taking the male chauv inist position that a woman s place is in the home But her proper place clearly isn t to be peering through Don Began s transom lf Nancy remained at home in the muring. while Bon went off lo his job she wouidn t know from minute to minute who is saying and doing what to whom Instead she d have to wait until Run came horn** in the es ening so she could ask
* How did it go today'”'
Ah you know how the Russians are Busy day0"
Ah you know how Congress is Anything interesting happen0 Ah you know how the Democrats are "
‘ Want to watch HUI Street0'
Sure she could phone him during the day. rn many wives do But it a not the same aa being there and riffling through Don Began i wastebasket And if the president didn t want to be bothered his secretary could always say He just stepped out of the office ”
But if the secretary says that now Nancy can respond W hat do you mean he a out of the of flee0 I rn right outside of his office caitiff from the duvet phone and I know he a in there Nor am I saving that she should be nothing more than a stay at home drone But there are other things she could be doing besides plotting her latest White House coup
Pottery Tennis lessons Take the car in to be greased and oiled Pick up the cleaning Do her good Get her mind off Poindexter and North And if she insisted on worry ing about something having a commuter husband would allow her to ask
’ Did you stop somewhere on the way home0 And it would give the henpecked president a chance to say Just for a (ast one lf this keeps up he ll need it
Time is past for 'be fruitful and multiply*
sok, rn 15 wotewn,, wrrri we rn mm that stops socirrv from Resorttak? to ice hocks#,
lf the Bible were to be rewritten this year with some quotes from God I think he d probably want to change that line in Genesis where he is quoted as saying. Be fruitful and multiply and replenish the earth “
For all we know God may have been mis quoted in the first place You know how careless reporters are A second Bible I have says he said “and fill the earth "
Whatever the case may be the present oc cupants of the planet F,arth have more than fulfilled that bit of biblical advice We've filled the Earth and now we ought to quit adding more people to it
The human race like maple trees or tish nave never multiplied up to their full capacity to do so. but it s getting close lf every egg in all the caviar ever eaten had become a fish. the oceans would be overrun with sturgeon lf all the eggs in all the women who ever lived had been fertilized the earth would have died of overcrowding thousands of years ago
We ought to have a grand plan for our planet s future which would arrange to maintain some relationship between the number of people trying to live on Earth and Earth’s ability to support that many
If you think it would be selfish for those 5
billion of us alive today to deny life here to unlimited numbers of people tomorrow consider what life would be like for them They’d be deprived of enough good air to breath food to eat. water to dnnk and any kind of space they could call their own
We have already ruined all the rivers from the Yangtze to the Mississippi Do you know of a lake you can drink from0 Lake water must have been drinkable before we started dumping gar bage and worse in them Now we've started on the oceans and big as they are they’ll he seas of slop before we're done
We often find ourselves breathing air we d prefer not to have rn our lungs but we have no choice That s all the air there is
In a recent report from a group called the Worldwatch Institute it was said that human ise of air water, land and forests has reached the point where permanent damage is being done
The proliferation of people is greatest in the countries, and among people, who are least able to take them on On television, you see emaciated women in Ethiopia with emaciated babies, both dying of starvation The baby is so young the woman must have been dying when she conceived it Did it not occur to her that it might have been better for the baby, better for her and better for everyone if she had denied herself having it0
lf the Pope had been nearby and the Ethiopian woman lying with the man asked for thr Pope * advice, would he have advised them to go ahead and be fruitful ' Or would he have said “No The Earth doesn't need any more people today, thank you "
lf birth control of one kind is wrong, it must a1 be wrong The most basic kind of birth control is the widely but reluctantly practiced inhibition of desire lie those opposed to birth control oppose that0
It s a pain to those who feel strongly about the tragedy of the black condition in America to see so many blacks assuring themselves and their children a dismal future
The least responsible black people arr having the most babies Today 60 percent of all black babies are being bom to unmarried women Six ty percent' The men the black mothers slept with are gone with the wind
A large percentage of these mothers are on welfare because they can't take care of themselves, let alone an infant There is no reason to believe, if there is anything at all to eugenics, that many of their children will ha able to take care of themselves
It s difficult to understand how any society, government, philosophy or religion could an-courage IU constituents to be fruitful Umm days
