According to Jim Mooney, a spokesperson for the American Association of Retired Person’s “55 Alive” driving program in New Braunfels, AARP is trying to combat the higher rates insurance companies are starting to charge older citizens with a mature driving program.
“What we’re trying to do is make an impression on the insurance companies,” Mooney said. “According to their own information people who take this course have fewer accidents.”
Mooney said the program is limited to 32 participants and teaches older motorists to compensate for the physical handicaps that age often presents.
He said insurance companies offer a IO percent discount to older citizens who take the course. He cautioned that in order to be eligible both drivers of the vehicle to be insured must take the course.
According to Mooney the next session of “55 Alive” will be on July 15 and 16. The charge is $8 and checks
should be made out to the AARP. older are eligible.
The course will be held at the Senior For more information contact Gladys
