New Braunfels Herald Zeitung (Newspaper) - June 23, 2000, New Braunfels, Texas Page 10A — Herald-Zeitung — Friday, June 23, 2000 Speaker offers “Finding Your Wings” hands-on workshop Religion Briefs Beth Carpenter, an internationally known speaker and author of “Strength of the Spirit,” will present a hands-on workshop entitled “Intuition, Your Angel Within -Finding Your Wings” on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Unity Church of San Marcos. Carpenter is an internationally known speaker and naturopathic practitioner. Her book is subtitled, “One Woman’s Journey Toward Health and Enlightenment Through her Ten-Year Battle with Cancer.” In her book, lectures and workshops, Carpenter share with us her knowledge and experience of bringing herself back to health. ^Carpenter implemented a combination of alternative and conven tional methods of healing including getting in touch with her own inner spirit. Carpenter left the legal field after obtaining a Doctorate of Naturopathy so she could devote her life to helping people understand a more complete approach to healing. This includes teaching people how to trust themselves and improve their quality of life by making healthier decisions. “Angels are everywhere watching, helping and encouraging us. We may or may not be aware of them. They come in many forms and even more, an angel lives in each of us, guiding us along life’s journey,” said Carpenter. The workshop promises to help participants rediscover the wonderful world of miracles. “It is an expedition filled with stories that will make you laugh and cry. This journey of rediscovery will transform your daily life into a wonderful world of miracles, leaving you with tools that will initiate positive changes for years to come. The cost of the workshop is $20 per person. Half of the fee will be donated to the church. To register for the workshop, call 1-512-392-5199. Questions can be directed to Carpenter at 1-512-707-9886 or to Bonnie West (Public Relations Director) at 1-512-282-0404.Unity Church posts schedule Unity Church of Practical Christianity, 642 Comal St in New Braunfels announces the following schedule: Rev. The Fellowship of Christian Athletes called the decision a “bizarre and ironic intrusion in the religious life and expression of American student athletes.” The American Jewish Congress called the decision “an important victory because it firmly dispels any notion that schools can evade the constitutional mandate of religious neutrality in the schools.”Religion, medicine link questioned NEW YORK (AP) — The trend toward incorporating religion and spirituality into health care is ethically and scientifically questionable, according to an article in this week’s New England Journal of Medicine by a group of Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, and Muslim biomedical researchers and chaplains. Combining the two “leads to weak science (and) watered-down religion,” said the article whose lead author was Richard P. Sloan, director of behavioral medicine at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center.IS€• tai BrdTinf&ls & SPrecis Hermes -Insurance Agency Since 1932 625-4500 399 W.
