What furl we had with our New Braunfels Police 'Lineup', AA-95-180. The phone started ringing when the Herald was just Tiot off the presses'. Ray. Chapa, (one of the members of the 'lineup'), was first to call with almost all of the names. Then his call was quickly followed by Gilbert Aldana, Doyle Wharton (in photo), Gladys Braker (wife of Police Chief Roy Braker pictured in photo), and today we had a nice visit with Victor Striegler (in photo) who clarified all the names and helped us get the spelling corrected. We also had a call from Alex Martinez (now living in San Antonio), who joined the NBPD as a patrolman the year after this photo was taken. Alex said his nephew called him about the photo - how nice - we thank you for calling and we do remember you.
Here's our ID for this one -- left to right: Chief Roy Braker; Victor Striegler; Eddy Wolfshohl; Alton Brehm; Jimmie Castillo; "Pop" Pospisil; C.E. Hyatt; Sylvester Beck (thanks to Lillion Robinson for this 'meter man's' first name); Steve Tunnels Doyle Wharton; Dan Reeves; -Raymond Chapa; and John Breslin.
remains unidentified, but we did have a stroke of luck... the photo brought to us by Rosalie Simon of The Hunter, AA-95-178 (Heraid-Zeitung, June 7, 1995), has been identified by Walter Halm. Walter tells us that this is Carl Junker, lifetime resident of the Sattler area. Thanks, Walter.

Tejeda calls on President to protect veterans’ health care
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Frank Tejeda called on President Clinton last week to protect veterans’ health care from an Average 20 percent discretionary spending reduction outlined in his FY96 budget proposal. In his letter to President Clinton, Congressman Tejeda agreed that “budget reductions must not inflict draconian cuts in education, defense and elderly health care programs. At the same time, I am equally concerned that we fulfill our sacred covenant with America’s veterans by guaranteeing resources to maintain and expand vet
erans' health care."
“Protecting the health care of our nation’s veterans from the budget ax is vital, but the President’s proposal is silent on the issue of funding for health care services for the millions of veterans who sacrificed themselves for the defense of our country,” said Tejeda. “Veterans’ health care funding is not what is driving the federal deficit.
“Our veteran population is older and requires more medical care than the general public,” said Tejeda. “In addition to Medicare and Medicaid, VA health services should be allowed to
grow. I urge President Clinton to exempt veterans’ health care from budget cuts and urge his commitment to increase its funding so that our veterans can get the medical services they need and rightfully deserve.”
President Clinton unveiled his FY96 budget proposal during his 5-minute television address to the nation on Tuesday, June 13. The proposal, which would reduce federal spending by $1.1 trillion in IO years, exempts education and defense from an average 20 percent reduction in discretionary spending.
