4 CHS Juniors attend Bluebonnet Girls State
Four Canyon High School Juniors were selected to attend Bluebonnet Girls State citizenship session held at Texas Lutheran University from lune 7 through 14.
Those attending were Danielle Mittlestadt, daughter of Craig and Kim Mittlestadt, sponsored by The American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 35; Lauren Kester, daughter of Robert and Sherry Kester, sponsored by The New Braunfels Noon Lions Club; Krista Hoffmann, daughter of Patricia Blalock, sponsored by The Garden Ridge-Bracken Lions Club; and Lauren Brucks, daughter of Ken and Lisa Brucks, sponsored by The New Braunfels Breakfast Lions Club.
The girls “learned by doing” to learn the functions of government and how it works by simulating the duties of city, county offices, learning to write bills and hold elections.
Out of the group of 580 from all over Texas, the girls will elect two of their members to attend Girls National in Washington, D.C. later this summer.

Uncle J.E.D. will be the next band featured in Concerts in the Park. The band, Jay Coble on drums, Erie Helin on bass and vocals, and Dave Larson on guitars and lead vocals, will feature Americana, country and rock 'n’ roll music. ■ Detour The east (northbound side) Interstate 35 frontage road has been converted to one-way northbound traffic from FM 306 to Kohlenberg Road. Southbound traffic will be directed north to Kohlenberg Road, then southbound on the west side frontage road.
■ Reopens: In three months.
■ Woric This section of the road will be reduced to one-way traffic for installation of drainage and roadway construction.
■ Closure: The southbound exit ramp 188 to Business 35 at the New Braunfels Marketplace is closed permanently and the southbound (west) frontage road will be switched to the newly completed frontage road from south ofTexas 46 to the Marketplace.
■ Reopens: The exit closure is permanent
■ Detour Traffic will be switched to the newly completed portion of the frontage road.
