Summer radiation program axpanda The city of New Braunfels Parks and Recreation Department is expanding the boundaries of the Summer Recreation Program to include all low income children living in the New Braunfels corporate city limits. Recreational and educational activities are available at the Lone Star School and the Lamar School. Activities throughout the summer will be based on themes such as safety, health and fitness, multi-cultural themes, Olympics, science and nature, pioneer life, around the world and careers. Program operates Monday - Friday, noon to 5:30 p.m. Participants must be six to 12 years old and meet residential and income guidelines. Session I is from June 5 -30. Session 2 is from July IO to Aug. 4. Fees range from $5 to $25 per session, based on family income. For information and registration, call 608-2167. Thrift shop tala Teen Connection Thrift Shop summer clearance sale, all items are half off during June. The thrift shop is at 1414 W. San Antonio Street. Mon«y for Aggies The Comal County Texas A&M Mothers Club has two $500 scholarships available to qualifying A&M seniors. To receive an application, call 609-3088 and one will be mailed to you. Applications must be postmarked no later than July I. An applicant's mother need not be a member of the A&M Mothers Club. Starlight Gala Reservations are now being taken for the American Cancer Society’s third annual Starlight Gala. Starlight in the Tropics is the theme for this year’s gala, which benefits the local unit of ACS. The gala will be held June 16 at the New [Braunfels Civic Center, the public is invited. Doors will open at 7 p.m. with Gatelli Strings providing music for mingling and during the seated dinner, catered by Blue Chip Catering, which will be served at 8 p.m. Dancing to the music of Twilight will begin at 9 p.m. and last until midnight. This year’s Master of Ceremonies is KENS Sportscaster Lisa Burkhardt. There will be a silent auction and games throughout the evening. Gift boxes and honorariums may be purchased before the Gala or during the event. The highlight of the evening will be the announcement of the winner of a one year (or 15,000 mile) lease of a 1995 Chevrolet Suburban, donated by Don Maxwell’s Chevy New Braunfels. Fair Quean contestants sought Comal County Fair Association is looking for girls who will be juniors at CISD or NBISD this coming school year to participate in the Fair Queen’s Contest. The winners will participate in visiting fairs and festivals for the coming year and will represent our community throughout the South Texas region. Juneteenth celebration The Black Heritage Sesquicentennial Committee now has tickets on sale for its Juneteenth celebration to be held at the New Braunfels Civic Center, Saturday, June IO. Lions carnival The Canyon Lake Noon Lions will hold a carnival at Fire House #1 on Highway 306 and Dove Street. Bingo Friday, Saturday and Sunday, June 9-11 from I p.m. to 5 p.m. Midway attraction, Ferris wheel, other rides, amusements, carnival food and much more. Realtors class The New Braunfels/Canyon Lake Area Association of Realtors will sponsor six hours of Mandatory Continuing Education June 9. The classes offered will be three hours of mediation and three hours of buydowns. Gasses will be held at Victoria Bank and Trust North Building from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost is $36 per three hours. Flag Day coromony A Flag Day ceremony is planned at the New Braunfels Elks Lodge 2279 lodge for Sunday, June 11 at 4 p.m. The ceremony is open to the general public. The lodge is located at 353 S. Diabetes screening The New Braunfels Noon Lions Club will sponsor a diabetes screening at no charge for senior citizens at the Comal County Senior Citizens Center on Landa Street Monday, June 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The nursing staff, provided by the Comal County Health Department, says fasting is not necessary for this type of screening.
