The Department of Mission and Service hosted the drive where the South Texas Biood and Tissue Center saw 34 w illing donors, of which 32 were able to donate. Greeting the donors were department members Mitzie Dreher. Rich Boyd and blood drive coordinator Charlene Nolte. They were assisted by some of the FPC Youth. Ben Culpepper and Jeffrey Orth. The FPC Senior High Youth donated a “cool” gift for a draw ing. Included were law n chairs won by James Orth, a “watermel on” drink set along with a watermelon won by Vivian Furlow and an ice chest won by Tim Aurora. All w ho donate blood between July I and July 31 are eligible for a draw ing for a Broil King Gas Barbecue grill courtesy of Jeff s Backyard. On behalf of First Protestant Church and the community, all donors are extended a special thank you for doing their part to help those in need by donating blood. The next blood drive at the church will be Oct. I.Rev. Bob Berthold speaks on Wed. The Unitarian Universalists will hear the Rev. Bob Bergthold at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Faith United Church of Christ, 970 N. Loop 337. His sermon will be, “Fried Onions and Grits for Breakfast,” about the cultural and religious implications of diversity. Everyone is invited. Child care is provided.
