However, it seems a shame that I must die before my kidneys can help someone. With so many people desperate for a kidney, why can’t a living person donate one to a stranger? I would be happy to give one of my kidneys to help a person lead a normal life. Do you know of anyone who would consider a gift of life from the living? ANONYMOUS IN WISCONSIN DEAR ANONYMOUS: I contacted the National Kidney Foundation and was advised that the success rate of kidney transplants from unrelated donors is no higher than the transplants donated at death. On the other hand, living donors put themselves at a small but potential risk should they lose the function of their remaining kidney through accident or illness. For this reason they do not encourage unrelated, living kidney donations. Bless you for your exceptional generosity. Individuals wishing to become organ donors upon death can indicate their willingness to do so on their driver’s licenses or call or write their local National Kidney Foundation affiliate, or National Kidney Foundation Inc., 2 Park Ave., New York, N.Y. 10016, for a Uniform Organ Donor Card. DEAR ABBY: I ve been going with this man for a year and a half. He’s HI and I’m 58. His wife has been dead for two and a half years and my husband died nine years ago. He rarely takes me anyplace where we will bump into people he knows, and if he does meet someone he knows when I’m with him, he is very slow to introduce me. He just leaves me standing there. Once he tried to pass me off as a “cousin.” I like him mote than I should, but I don’t like the way he treats me. I am a neat, clean person and I have good manners, but he acts like he’s ashamed to be seen with me. I would like a future with this man, but he won’t commit himself. His idea of a nice evening is for him to bring the fixings to my place and have me make supper for him. Then he likes to “play house,” which is the only time he says he loves me. When we first met he told me we would be “together” one day. But when? How can I get a commitment out of this man? GETTING NOWHERE IN IOWA DEAR GETTING NOWHERE: You can’t. Maybe he intends for you to be ’’together” in heaven. Tell him you can’t wait that long, and give him a deadline. (Every teen-ager should know the truth about sex, drugs and how to be happy. Sidney Horoscope By Stella Wilder THURSDAY, JULY 25 Born today, you possess a great sense of resonsibility, both to yourself and your heritage. All of what you do is calculated to make great personal strides, as well as strengthen the perhaps already remarkable reputation of your family and forerunners. Despite this nobility, however, you are made up of your share of human vices; you are stubborn, willful and have been known to be not just a little petty — especially when it comes to the faults of others. You do know what you want, though, and you are more than willing to accept the hard work essential to the gaining of it — despite the laziness that rears its ugly head from time to time! You shall find success in life — financial, spiritual and romantic. Also born on this date are David Belasco, theatrical producer: Queen Elizabeth of the Belgians. To see what is in store for you tomorrow, find your birthday and read the corresponding paragraph. Let your birthday star be your daily guide. FRIDAY.
