Peter & Paul Church. Prince Carl soon set up his headquarters on the hill where the Sophienburg Museum now stands, and the town was very quickly laid out centered on what is now Main Plaza. The main surviving historic structures and businesses in Downtown New Braunfels reflect the rich heritage of the city. The Sophienburg Museum and the Sophienburg Archives are musts for history minded visitors, and a Historic Walking Tour Guide is available at the Visitors Center and at several businesses downtown. The New Braunfels Downtown Association In existence since 1967, the New Braunfels Downtown Association is the oldest continuously operating downtown association in Texas. Composed of businesses, property owners, civic organizations, and interested individuals, the Downtown Association works with Main Street and the Chamber of Commerce to “enhance the natural beauty and promote the economic development of the downtown area."2005 SPECIAL EVENS Hot Ail After Hours (3rd Friday) • July 17 Independence Day Patriotic Parade • July 4 Hot Art After Hours (3rd Friday) • July 15 Hot Art After Hours (3rd Friday) • August 19 Hot Ari After Hours (3rd Friday) • September 16 Comal County Fair Parade • September 23 Harvest Happening • October 23-30 Wurstfest (Wurstfest Grounds) • November 4-13 Downtown Days & Sidewalk Sales • November 5-6 Downtown Days & Sidewalk Sales • November 12-13 Downtown Tree Lighting & Santa s Arrival • November 18 Welhnachtsmaricet • November 18-20 Wassaiifest • December 1 Champagne Shopping (Thursday) • December 8 Champagne Shopping (Thursday) • December 15 Caroling on the Plaza • December 16 Champagne Shopping (Thursday) • December 22 Visit our website for more information on New Braunfels, the Downtown Association, upcoming events, and for links to websites of member businesses and the Greater New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce.
