Raul Malo will bring his amazing voice to town on Feb. 5 and as past shows by Malo prove, this guy is a fantastic entertainer.
Boz Skaggs was born in Canton, Ohio but moved to Plano, Texas when he was a teenager. I le soon met Steve Miller and they formed their first band, The Marksman.

They later formed the Steve Miller Band and the rest is history. Skaggs went solo in 1968 but never reached major success until he released “Silk Degrees” in 1976. You can bet he will be performing hits from all phases of his career when he plays Gruene Hall Feb. 18.
Last but not least is a three-day run featuring Reckless Kelly and the Reverend Horton Heat, beginning Feb. 24. For more on these sliows
plus many others, visit gruenehall.com.
The Phoenix Saloon
The Phoenix Saloon has some really cool shows taking place each week, starting tonight with the Clay Jeffrey Band. This hot three piece band from Austin will blow you away with their style and technique, especially when you realize Clay plays an acoustic guitar. Think Monte Montgomery

Saturday brings the blues guitar magic of the young Adam Johnson back to the Phoenix. Adam will be bringing some friends each week to jam onstage, so if you get a chance, check this guy out, he’s the real deal.
Drew Kennedy continues his Tuesday night song swap and next week welcomes Gordy Quist from The Band of Heathens. Devil’s Hollow is playing every Wednesday in

January and February, each week inviting a special guest musician to help them record a “Live at the Phoenix" album. The list of friends is impressive, so check it out at thephoenixsa-loon.com.
I was saddened to hear that singer songwriter Gary Claxton passed away last week. Claxton was a regular performer at Gruene Hall and at the Continental Club in Austin.
He was a member of the Texas super group Heybale that included guitarist Redd Volkaert and pianist Earl Poole Ball. Heybale formed in Nashville but moved to Austin in 1999 where they have remained. He is sur
vived by his wife Mandy and at press time, there was no word on whether Heybale would continue as a band without Claxton.
The new season starts next week at the beautiful Brauntex Theatre with an amazing schedule of shows.
I’ll be previewing each one as they come around, but don’t wait, get those tickets now. Jeremy Davis & the Fabulous Equinox Orchestra performs on Jan. 22, a great tribute to the pop band ABBA happens on Feb. 5, and last but not least, the Shake, Rattle & Roll Oldies Doo-Wop Show comes to town on Feb. 11. See their website for more info at brauntex.org.
The 2011 season of New Braunfels house concerts kick off this Sunday featuring The Steel Wheels, a talented folk band from Virginia.
The four piece band is definitely Americana, said host Elaine Hayden.
“I saw them in Memphis at the International Folk Alliance Conference and knew I just had to get them to New Braunfels,” Hayden said.
Hayden’s house concerts are legendary, so contact hei right away at 830-625-0859 to get all the info and show schedule.
Doors open at 4:30 and music starts at 5pm. There is a $20 suggested donation at the door and a potluck dinner is served between the sets. Find her on facebook.com/nbhousecon-certs.
