Herald-Zeitung O Sunday, January 14, 1996 □ 5 ACroteau brings nice contrast to Thomas on Opinion Page
“Thank you” to Roger Croteau. Your column on being a liberal was an extremely refreshing bit of writing. It was a nice contrast to Cal Thomas’ slant on politics for a change. Thanks to the Herald-Zeitung for printing it.
Janet Hartnell- Williams New BraunfelsNew Braunfels’ "special people’' receive tho best care
I, like the majority of people, was sickened by the events shown on Diane Sawyer’s TV editorial on Wednesday, Jan. IO.
I find it hard to believe the cruelty one human being is capable of doing to others, even to animals.
I want to share with the people of New Braunfels who do not know of die good work being done at River Gardens and some of the happenings for our “special people.” I have worked
Whitworth files for District 21 position
Jim Whitworth, Laredo certified public accountant, has filed for the state Senate race for District 21 as a Republican.
Whitworth was elected director of the Del Mar Conservation District and during his tenure, services were ificreased and taxes were reduced.
* Whitworth also served on the United Independent School District board, ihcluding tenure as president. He was instrumental in contracting the building of 7 schools, and the addition and improvement of many others; the realignment of the middle schools; and the implementation of the U1SD alternative school.
Whitworth attended Lamar Middle School, graduated from Martin High School, and is a graduate of the University of Texas—Austin.
A veteran, Whitworth served on active duty in the military for four years and received an honorable discharge. He has been married for 30 years to Sylvia Whitworth and has two children.
here almost 5 years—many different shifts, weekends and holidays, worked in workshop, taught classes, went to concerts in the park, parades, etc., worked in the front office for two years—so I have seen most phases of the work here.
We have happy, healthy, caring faces appearing in sewing, arts and crafts, cooking classes, taking part in our gym classes, working in our workshop, gardening, caring for plants in the greenhouses and taking walks.
We appear in the waiting rooms at local doctors’ offices, attend church, shop, even go to the beauty shop. We have enjoyed concerts in the park, viewing the Christmas lights downtown, the Comal County Fair and parades.
We at River Gardens find a special reward in helping our “special people.”
New Braunfels has always been a concerned caring place: note our Children’s Shelter, Teen Connection, new Women’s Center and the Senior Citizens Center.
I am glad River Gardens is part of our city and feel sure citizens here will be proud to know of the many good accomplishments being done with our “special people.”
Most sincerely, Reena Udkler New BraunfelsLetters
