First grade students learned how farmers made a living not so long ago. While growing up on a farm, Mrs. Tschoepe picked cotton, it being the family’s cash crop. Students Angela Hoffman and Benjamin Lankford learned how to pick cotton.
Making butter was a weekly chore when Mrs. Tschoepe was growing up. Here students take turns shaking a bottle of cream to make butter. Left to right are Taylor Kresta, Phillip Walden, Jennifer Castilleja, Nicole Rodriguez and Ashley Richardson.
Students learned to keep God’s world beautiful. They planted pansies, snapdragons and ornamental cabbages in a flower bed near Sts. Peter & Paul School. Kneeling, I to r, are Katie Burden, Emma Lynch and Christopher Libbey. Standing, I to r, are Samantha Stevens, teacher Mrs. Tschoepe, Benjamin Lankford and Michael Goff.
Samantha Stevens and Emma Lynch separate cotton seeds from the cotton. The class also learned what happens in a cotton gin.
Enjoying fresh butter and crackers are Trade Wrape, Samantha Stevens, Emma Lynch, Lori Hildebrand and Mercedes Ferrer.
Each year, students in Mrs. Tschoepe s and Mrs. Rhodes' first grade classes take an educational field trip to Sea World in San Antonio. The students complete a unit that fulfills many science essential elements. They learn information about mammals (including pinnipeds), fish and birds. Children learn specific names, what the animals eat, their habitats, adaptations and many characteristics. Students Lori Hildebrand, Joshua McKinnis and Tracie Wrape (I to r) learn that penguins do not have a nest; the male penguin carries the egg on his feet.Teen-Agers of the MonthA New Look For An Old Tradition The New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung
