3 Mile Stone livening up Gruene Hall tonight
.1 Mile* Stone might not play on a regular basis in our area, but when they do, they make it count. I hat’s exactly what they have in mind for their headlining show tonight at Gruene Mall.
"We have Meagan Tubb opening for us," said founding bassist Dennis Peek. “And we have a treat for the fans.
Monty 'Guitar' Tyler will Join us for several songs and then later in our set, we are going to invite Meagan Tubb up to DALf MARTIN
play some ... ,
I kite Martin writes
tlllies with about musk- He can US.
"Right now we are thinking about doing ‘Gimme Shelter' and maybe Angel from Montgomery’. Meagan has opened for us before and we think she’s great. We are really looking forward to playing some songs with her; it will be the first time to have her join us onstage.”
He said they are planning on taping the show.
It’s going to he a great night of music," he said.
I here are a lot of cool things about this show; l;irst, there’s no cover charge; second, there's two great hands and some cool jam sessions are going to take place.

If you happened to catch the New Year’s Eve show at the Phoenix Saloon, you witnessed a great opening set by
Austin Gilliam & the Politicians. This band seems to get better every time I see them. They got the night off to a
great start with a healthy dose of classic rock cover tunes and originals.
“We only did a few originals on New Year’s Eve,” Gilliam said, “but our Friday show will be different. I’ll have my regular band back with me, plus Allan Goodman is flying hack home from California to join me on guitar. So this will be a full blown Austin Gilliam & the Politicians show. We’ve got some cool originals worked up, like Maybe I’m OK,’ and Next Stop,’ plus some really good cover tunes that we real
ly enjoy playing.”
This might be one of your last chances to see Austin and his great band for awhile, so come to the Phoenix Saloon tonight. There’s no cover charge. Come back Saturday night and catch Drew Kennedy with his full band and the tiny cover of $5.
Last week, Cody Canada & the Departed made their long-awaited live debut at Gruene Hall. In a show of faith, the show sold-out, with the crowd not knowing what to expect or what songs they would
hear. (Canada thanked the fans on several occasions for coming to a concert featuring a new band and all new songs.
Differences between the new band and his previous one quickly became apparent by featuring three vocalists and two lead guitars, plus keyboards. They opened with Any Other Way,’ a tune current keyboardist Steve Littleton wrote when he was in Old Crow Medicine Show. From there, they basically played the entire “This is Indian Land” album with a few Seth James and Ragweed tunes thrown in for good measure.
According to Canada, it will be out sometime in April. They did premier one new original song, “Black Horse Mary,” which will be on their second album, which will most likely be released in 2012.
If you missed the Gruene Hall show, fear not, they will be at the new Austin City Limits Theater on Feb. 11. See thede-partedmusic.com for more info on their current tour.
Riley’s Tavern did some remodeling over the holidays and now has a bigger stage and more room to enjoy live music. Tonight, Texas honky tonk legend Dale Watson will take the stage, so make plans now to check out the new stage and the incredible sounds of Watson and his band.
