Brinkkoeter named Firefighter of the Year

He also was an exchange student with the New Braunfels High School German Club and spent four weeks in Germany as an axdnmge student. He was prior chairman of the Board of the American Red Cross fcr Comal County, and is current Chairman of Disaster Services.

He is also project director fbr the New Braunfels Fire Museum. He has worked hard interviewing retired firefighters, collecting fire artifacts, and
refurbishing the old central fire station, in order to officially open the Fire Museum in June 1995, in conjunction with the Sesquicentennial Celebration.
Brinkkoeter has been a professional firefighter for 14 months and was a
member of the volunteer fire department for four years prior to becoming a career firefighter.
He attended the Texas A&M Recruit Firefighting School in 1992 and graduated at the top of his class, receiving the Most Outstanding Student Award.
Brinkkoeter has attended the University of Texas’ Health Science Center, where he received certification to be an Emergency Medical Technician
On Feb. 28,1992, Darren successfully completed a 90-hour Fire Cause Detection and Arson Investigation Course.
On June 30 Darren graduated from the Hays County Police Academy. He serves as a volunteer Arson Investigator for the Comal County Fire Marshal’s Office.
He also has attended San Antonio College where he is working on a fire science degree. In March 1994, Brinkkoeter was recognized as an Unsung Hero by the New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung.
His father, Roger Brinkkoeter, served fbr more than 20 years with the New Braunfels Fire Department.
