New Braunfels Herald Zeitung (Newspaper) - February 26, 1987, New Braunfels, Texas hewing Continued from P*9e 7 ii md 14, and whose home housed Artistry during its infancy. “We just started doing this as a way to rn: %e a little bit of money. Then we realized that if we would put the in . »ey in the bank, we could use it to bt; d the business.” ■dday, both women devote nine itours a day, five days a week to their business which employs three additional staff members. “We’re getting ready for our second round of trade shows,” Dianne says And it’s at times such as this that five day work weeks become seven, and all nighters not unusual.” Their advice to would-be entrepreneur's: “Do your homework. If you don’t have a business background, be prepared to learn in a hurry,” cautions Dianne. “Be professional; do the best work you can. Don’t settle for second best.” “We got help from SCORE (Service Corp of Retired Executives) and the SBA (Small Business Administration),” Kathy says. “We at tended seminars on accounting and taxes. When we made the commitment, we decided to do it right.” “It would have been easier if we had money going in,” Dianne adds. “You’ve got to have money in order to print 5,000 or 10,000 booklets. If you don’t have a business track record. it s not easy to get a loan.” Nor is it easy to build a business and establish contacts in the national market. But ifs getting easier. “People come looking for us now. There’s a lot more potential for growth,” Kathy says. “I know I spend too much time working. But we know we’re on the right track.” This week’s terrific tip comes from Georgia Lyons of Richmond, Ind.: “My tip has to do with sealants such as Fray Check. If too much sealant is applied, it can be removed with rubbing alcohol before it sets.” Do you have a terrific sewing tip to share? Send it to: Sewing Tips, P.O. Box 39397, Cincinnati Ohio 45239.
