Anew relationship was forged on Valentine's I )ay in New Braunfels, as Christus Santa Rosa I iospital — New Braunfels and New Braunfels Art League announced a joint project designed to showcase the work of local artists.
The program features artwork created by 10 Hill Country artists on display in the hospital at GOO North Union Ave.
"Artwork on the exhibit wall will change quarterly to display pieces in a variety of media by different area artists," said Barbara ()'( onnor, NBAI. first vice president. "The winter exhibit, now on display, features photography while spring is dedicated to pastels and watercolors.
" Children’s art is the choice for summer and oils will be featured in the fall.”
Artists whose work is displayed include Robert Arts« hut/, Beverly Cobb, M. Gayle Kadura, Mary Olivia McIntosh. Betty Muni, Joletie Oyer, Darryl I Patrick, Joyce Powell, Kay Reinke, and John Reinke.
“The new program is designed to introduce artwork into the health care setting to increase the positive, healing atmosphere for patients and staff. Additionally, the program will highlight New Braunfels’ richly talented artistic community," said Jim Wesson, I AC I If., vice president and administrator at the hospital.

Company leases Gonzales County land for $3M

I he SSl.Gt: hoard, in its monthly meeting Thursday, approved oil and gas leases on 21 tracts of land to Rambar Industries Inc. of Liredo. The company has agreed to pay $ 1 .(KM) per acre to lease almost
3,053 net mineral acres owned by the SSLGC.
Schertz-Seguin Ixtcal Government Corp. owns a gross total of4,425 acres in Cionzales County; however, it does not own 1(H) percent of the mineral rights on all of its land.
Of the 21 tracts, SSLGC owns 100 percent of the mineral rights on 14 of the tracts, 50 percent on four of them, 90.9 percent on one tract, 79.9 percent on one tract and 49.18 percent on another tract.
Rambar Industries has 90
days to verify mineral rights ownership claimed by the corporation. The leases to Rambar run for three years, and the company has the right to negotiate a two-year extension.
SSLGC was represented in the negotiations with Rambar Industries by attorney Bill Kno-bles of Seguin. Knobles’ presentation to the board Thursday was made during a dosed-door session.
After the board reconvened in open session, Knobles summarized the presentation and
recommended approval of the proposed leases and related documents.
On a motion made by Robin Dwyer and seconded by Jim Wolverton, the board voted unanimously to approve the leases.
Rambar Industries was represented by the company’s attorney, Adolfo Quintero, and Brittany Wegener. The company, which was established in 1999, is headquartered in Laredo and also has an office in San Antonio.

CISD EARLY CHILDHOOD SCREENING SLATED FOR THURSDAY
Early childhood screening will be held Thursday for children that are newborn to age 5 who have suspected delays in speech, language or development and live in Comal ISD.

TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURE ON LEE STREET PLANNED
The City of New Braunfels has announced a temporary road closure in effect from noon Thursday to 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18 on Lee Street between S. Walnut Avenue and S. Sycamore Avenue. This will allow for storm sewer pipe installation as part of the Walnut Avenue Project. For information, please contact Octavio Garza, Assistant City Engineer at 713-205-6237.
TRAFFIC LANES TO BE REDUCED ON WALNUT AVENUE
NBU and City of New Braunfels Public Works crews will be working together to pave a section of Walnut Avenue near the Landa Street intersection where a water leak was repaired recently. The paving will be between 8 a.m. and noon Thursday.
The work will require reducing the southbound traffic heading toward Loop 337 on Walnut Avenue to one lane and closing the turn lane at the Landa Street intersection. The lane reduction and closure are necessary to maneuver equipment and ensure the safety of the crews working on the project.
Delays can be expected during this project and drivers who typically access this area are advised to seek an alternate route. For information, call (830) 608-8831.

CANDIDATES CAN FILE FOR CISD BOARD THROUGH MARCH 14
The annual board of trustees’ election in Comal ISD is May 14. Candidates interested in filing for one of the two seats up for election can do so through March 14.
The seats in Single-Member District 3, currently held by Frank Baker, and Single-Member District 4, currently held by Donna Holmes, are up for election.
An application for a place on the ballot is available at the Support Services Administration Offices,
1404 1-35 North in New Braunfels, weekdays between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. For information, call (830) 221-2000.
Those interested in filing for one of the seats must be registered voters, live in the single-member district they are filing for, and have been residents of the district for six months.
YACHT CLUB, PARKS AND RECTEAM UP TO SHOW MOVIE AT PARK
New Braunfels Yacht Club will be showing a free movie, "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs," on Friday.
The movie will show at 7 p.m. on the Landa Park Dance Slab. New Braunfels Yacht Club and City of New Braunfels Parks and Recreation Department are teaming up for event, which will benefit the S.O.S. Food bank.
Everyone is invited. Attendees are asked to bring non-perishables for the food bank. There will be coffee, hot chocolate and popcorn available for purchase.
There will be a fire ring for anyone who wants to roast marshmallows and make "S'mores.”
