Smithson Valley FFA chapter show has lots of winners
More than 173 animals were exhibited and 48 trophies and prizes awarded at the Smithson Valley High School Future Farmers of America chapter show held Jan. 30 and 31 at the Comal County Fairgrounds In the swine division. Julie Craighead exhibited the grand champion market hog, while Karen Haack’s animal won reserve grand champion Charles Mahone took grand champion honors in tile swine showmanship class, while Darryl Long won reserve grand champion The junior adult showmanship class was won by Donnie McIntosh and the senior adult showmanship award went to Vivian Nowotny.
Darryl Nowotny exhibited the grand champion steer and Chad
Schaeferkoeter took reserve grand champion.
Beef Showmanship was won by Kirk Mitchell, while Darryl Nowotny was the reserve champion showman.
Diron Wunderlich won the junior adult showmanship award and Arlon Nowotny was the champion in the senior adult showmanship.
The grand champion Lamb was exhibited by Russell Dickerson, while Monica Startz had the reserve grand champion. In the sheep showmanship class. Startz won the grand champion honors and Rene Callahan took reserve champion.
Ailen Fckhardt won the junior adult sheep showmanship class and Jean Startz was the grand champion in senior adult showmanship.
Following a steak fry. showmanship demonstrations in the swine, sheep and steer divisions were given by former SVHS students Diron Wunderlich. Allen Eckhardt, Justin Henefey, Donnie McIntosh, Ray Murphy, Riley Startz, Jeff Dieted, Garrett Warren and Wade Renken.
FFA sponsors at Smithson Valley are Scott Cunningham and Darrell Moeller.
Cole Reinarz was the lamb showmanship showmanship award and Hat Barrix, the winner, Shaun Soechting won the steer swine showmanship title.

Survivors include two daughters. Kma Druebert of New Braunfels and Norma Coli of Seguin; two sons. Rudolph Nolle and Edgar Nolte, both of New Braunfels; Dora Schriewer of Seguin, six grandchildren. 14 great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
