New Braunfels Herald Zeitung (Newspaper) - February 2, 1994, New Braunfels, Texas Wednesday. Feb. 2.1994 ■ Herati-Zeitung ■ 5 A W.O.R.D. meeting rn waste off time Dear Editor: I tm dwelling on the WORD (Water Oriented Recreation District) meeting I attended on Jan. 19.1994. The first item on the action agenda was the executive session. It lasted about an hour and 45 minutes. At dmet loud sounds of disagreement could be heard coming ftom the room where the board was closeted with their attorneys. Meanwhile, the approximately six members of the public in attendance sat visiting with each other. The third item on the agenda was the election of officers. It seemed as if nobody wanted to be president Finally, six people stepped back leaving one person forward to be die next president. Further on down the line, item six, much discussion was spent on whether an hourly rate or quarter hour rate should be charged for work used in developing certain documents. Item seven concerned appointing committees, which included citizen advisors. A board member was heard to remark “she attends most af the meetings, but is usually tanked.' Let's keep heron the committee.** Moving on.. .Item eight, approve and adopt the 1994 budget—produced much discussion. Should the expected income be balanced with proposed expenditures? Consider a hearing to review user fee rates was item 9. No action was taken. Most of the rest of the meeting was routine, but before the item for public comments came up, about 10:45 p.m., most of the public had departed, including me. This meeting was typical of those over the last 6-9 months. A complete waste of the public’s time. A bunch of nonsense or “bucket of worms*’ if you prefer that expression. Litigation is pending in Austin to dissolve WORD. The sooner, the better in my opinion. Bill Beam Canyon Lake Pol ic* should not raise revenues Dear Editor: New Braunfels Police Chief Head-en wants more personnel and has suggested that each patrol officer write two more tickets per day at $65 each, to pay for the additional personnel. I do not believe raising revenues should be a responsibility of the police department. The officers should be patrolling in and during the highest crime areas, not to write extra $65 tickets. The taxpayers should pay this expense if our town actually is in "dire need" as the Herald-Zeitung puts it in the Sunday, Jan. 30 editorial. Politicians ftom the federal government down to the local government want to avoid raising taxes by adding or raising "fees" and then they proudly say "we didn’t raise taxes." Someone pays and it might be you! With a ticket and possible higher car insurance rates also. Call your council members about your concerns on this issue; it is going to affect us all one way or the other. Myrtle Voigt Clark New Braunfels Country should not got Involved in wars Dear Editor: Its amazing to me how a Draft-Dodging man who was too scared to answer his country’s military call AND PROTESTING a war in R S progress, in a foreign country, while his fellow Americans were fighting and dying there, could wind up becoming elected by die American people as their president War Lord Clinton, the Arm Chair Fighter, is now hiding behind the White House, out of harms way, as he send Mama’s and Daddy's sons and Daughters off to fight and die in wars they probably don’t want to fight either but have the guts to courage to stand up for and die with the fact they will never live to see the chance of becoming President. Somehow Dead Soldiers/Marines can’t seem to make it to become President, about as close they get is Dover, Delaware, and since they are dead ftom fighting a war American People sent them to fight, they find they can’t unzip those Body Bags. Had they did what Gunfighter Clinton did and protested the Wars they fought by running and hiding or protesting to the otherside about the wars they were engaged in,maybe they would have lived to sit behind the Oval Office Desk. I’ll bet OI Fireball Aspin would have sure as hell wanted those tanks had his tail been sitting where those, now dead Army Rangers, were in Somalia. Now, those “White House” Warriors, Clinton, Aspin, who most of the military despise are about to send more of our sons and daughters r V FREE EYE EXAM v > PURCHASE A COMPLETE* PAIR OF EYEGLASSES AND RECEIVE UP TO $40 OFF TOWARD YOUR EYE EXAM Creative Eyewear CTO (210)625-9770    844 N.
