New Braunfels Herald Zeitung (Newspaper) - February 2, 1994, New Braunfels, Texas Wednesday, Feb. 2,1994 ■ Herald-Zeitung ■ 3, ■■©■■a wmmmmmmmI ■■■■■■■■■ B H S B I A • ■ .*• --via*' - toms*• * s Block scheduling idea wins raves from students By JENNIFER RUST Special to the Herald-Zeitung Next year students at New Braunfels High School will be affected in many ways because of the change in the scheduling of classes. Block Scheduling will benefit students, and it will enable students to meet their credits and follow the college bound program. In ender for more students to meet this need the program was restructured. With this schedule there will be almost a year and a half more classes enabling students to take more classes. This schedule will be most beneficial to students. Instead of students taking six classes and having six different teachers, they will only have four classes and only have to adjust to four different teachers. There will be more indepth study with the classes being 90 minutes long. Homework for students may be reduced with having only four classes. With 90 minute long classes student will be able to take field trips and take part in other hands-on experiences. “Student stress will be reduced,” said NBHS Principal John Turman. There are a lot of opinions about the block scheduling from students. Here’s what some of the students are saying: • "Academically, this program will offer exceptional room for intelligence to grow!” said junior Amy Grunwald. • "This schedule allows students to take more decdves and they have more of a variety of classes. It also relieves the stress of having to keep up with six classes at one time. I know I definitely am looking forward to this new change,** said junior Julie Taylor. • "Students will only have to worry about four classes a day, therefore making school less stressful. The scheduling provides eight classes a year which will give students a chance to take more classes and gain more knowledge, making them better prepared for college,** said junior Robyn Hugghins. • "This will give us the extra time and energy to place our concentration on these four classes, learn more, and therefore further our educations,** said junior Gara Walden. • "The accelerated block schedule will be beneficial to the academically focused students of New Braunfels High School. It will allow those students who wart to exceed at the chance to take more college bound courses. The schedule also sounds to be less strenuous than the present schedule,” said junior Caleb Nieri. Congratulations to the new 1994 Queen of Hearts Court who were elected Wednesday: Senior Class: King Jimmy Gaus; Queen Sarah Smith Junior Class: King Brook Cavert; Queen Alison Bmemmer Sophomore Class: King Joe Roberts; Queen Blanca Torres Freshman Class: King Ruben Perez; Queen Cherie Gayton The Queen of Hearts Coronation and Dance is slated for Feb. 11,1994.
