By REV. KENNY WOOD Covenant Baptist Church
I couldn’t have been more than 5 when I eavesdropped on my first conversation. I was in my room when I overheard my mother and my grandmother talking in the kitchen. When I heard my name mentioned I Marine-crawled my way up the hall to listen in.
My grandmother said something like, “I can’t imagine what our family would have been like without Kenny.” I wasn’t sure what she meant by it. Because I couldn’t imagine my family without mc either. I guess I never thought about the possibility that I might never have been.
She went on to say to my mother, “I remember how you felt when you found out you were going to have a baby. How upset you were ... how bad the timing seemed with you both in school. How too young you were...” My mother didn’t say anything, which I assume meant yes. I didn’t really know what their talk meant but I haven’t forgotten it.
Beck ic and I w ent to Austin this week with Jay and Tracy Rogers to see Paul Simon in coneen. The title of his 1991 America tour is “Bom At the Right Time."
Which leads mc to this. No matter what you’ve heard to the contrary, you were bom at the right time. I know, you ma> have heard that you came late
or maybe too early. I don’t put much stock in that. My guess is God knew when you were coming. And as far as God’s concerned you were bom at the right time.
The whole truth is that God needed someone just like you, your size and > style, to complete the Grand Design. You were no surprise to God. God ■” knew you even before there was a you. Not only that, we are bom in God’s image.
Fred Craddock said it this way: .
“When God made the earth, God -looked and said. ‘That’s good.'
“And when God made the heavens * and stars and sun and moon. God said, ‘That’s good.’
“And when God made the fish of the sea and animals — the elephants and butterflies and rainbow trout, the dolphins and the horses — God looked and said, ‘That’s good.’
“But when God made us. God looked and said, ‘Why, that’s me!"
Everyone bom on this planet is bom from the heart of God. “Before the world w as made. God had already chosen us to be ...” (Ephesians 1:4).
God expected you. waited until the time was right, and then welcomed you into this world as if you were the most important piece of God’s puzzle.
