District institutes safety program By ROBERT STEWART Blaff Writer Another phase of the Comal Independent School District’s cost containment effort as they continue to deal with several years of state funding losses is a safety incentive/training program. To show the district’s appreciation for safe working habits, safety pins were presented to approximately 40 percent of employees in the custodial and maintenance departments at the December board meeting. The two groups of safety pin recipients had no accidents or injuries during one- and three-year periods, said Roy Linnartz, CISD director of buildings and grounds. “The ones gelling their three-year pins are some of the folks who have not 'sustained an injury since we started the program," Linnartz said. ‘The years in between there we’ve had folks coming on every year getting first year pins." The program was approved by the Comal 1SD Board of Trustees in April 1989. Since that time, the maintenance department has held numerous inservice meetings stressing safe-work habits. These habits include proper lifting procedures to reduce back injuries, wearing seat bells, safety glasses, and hearing protection devices, Linnartz said. (Photo by Bill Ervin) Horoscope By Stella Wilder Born today, you are capable of expressing yourself with such grace and aplomb that you will rarely want for anything all your life. There will be times, of course, in which merely expressing your desires won’t be enough; certainly, you will have to know how to work for what you want — and you will certainly learn how, and in no time, too! There are contradictions in your temperament that may make things difficult in times of emotional stress and uncertainty. You think in terms which are entirely your own, and your attitudes and beliefs are unique. You know how to follow the rules, but you also know how to change the rules to suit your own needs. This is especially true in romance — where your success is likely to be quite remarkable.
