Elsewhere Area stores putting in overtime, closing early for Christmas By Ron Maloney Staff Writer The true, dyed-in-the eggnog last-minute Christmas shoppers will be seen in Walgreen’s Monday morning, buying Billy Bass or a jackalope for that special someone. Most of the rest of us who planned a little more carefully will want to finish shopping this weekend. Most area stores will be running full or even extra hours today, but some will close earlier than usual on Christmas Eve, so be careful. The Walgreen Drug store and pharmacy at San Antonio Street and Landa Avenue will be open from 8 a.m. to IO p.m. today, with pharmacy hours set from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, it will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and on Christmas Day, it will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eckerd Drugs on Business 35 will be open from 9 a.m. to IO p m today. Sunday, it will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. It will be closed Monday. Wal-Mart is open 24 hours a day except on Christmas Day. It closes at 6 p.m. Sunday and reopens at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 26. Target on Walnut Avenue will be open 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. today. On Sunday, hours will be 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. It will be closed Monday, and will reopen Tuesday at 7 a.m. The K-Mart Super Store, open 24 hours, will be open until 8 p.m. Sunday. It will reopen at 6 a.m. Tuesday. The New Braunfels Marketplace will be open for regular shopping hours today, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Christmas Eve, its hours will be noon to 5 p.m. Some stores in the Marketplace have additional shopping hours. It’s best to call ahead for later shopping. The Hastings Book Store will be open today from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Sunday, Hastings will be open 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. On Christmas Day, Hastings will be closed. Otherwise, trash collection schedules will remain the same. • Comal County offices will be closed ail day for Christmas, Monday. Offices will reopen at 8 a.m. Tuesday. - • The New Braunfels post office will be open for normal business hours from 8:30 a.m. to noon today* The post office is closed Sunday and Monday. However, the post office will deliver Express mail packages, fruit and other packages that appear to be Christmas presents on Sunday and Monday. • New Braunfels Utilities offices will be closed Monday and Tuesday in observance of the Christmas holiday. Customers with bills due Monday have until 5 p.m. Wednesday to pay their bills.
