The drive is seeking old or used clothes, shoes and linens. Proceeds will benefit charities in New Braunfels. Drive organizers also are asking charities that need their help to contact them. Foundation opon house The Youth Care Foundation, a non-profit residential treatment center, is having a community open house from I to 5 p.m. Wednesday at the center at 652 Old Bear Creek Road. Activities include Christmas carols and tours, and refreshments will be served. Ho arty harvest A free community dinner will be conducted from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the New Braunfels Civic Center. Santa Claus will be there to greet everyone and to distribute toys. Volunteers are needed on Sunday for meal preparation and on Monday to decorate, sort toys, serve meals and clean up the kitchen. He will be available to assist all citizens with disabilities. Outreach to children Family Outreach of Comal County continues to have its “For Kids Sake” seminars. Benefit cookbooks Cookbooks to benefit the Joe Hales Memorial Scholarship Fund are now on sale. Each recipe was submitted by a mentor-tutor in the New Braunfels Independent School District Helping One Student To Succeed program. The one-of-a-kind recipe books are on sale for $6.50 and may be purchased at the office at Carl Schurz Elementary School. Children’s advocates Court Appointed Special Advocates of Central Texas Inc. is conducting a 40-hour course to train volunteer advocates beginning in February. A judge appoints advocates to give the court an objective view of what is in the best interest of a child involved in the legal system.
