The show will run Feb 17 to New veterans'group to reach out to homeless By ROGER CROTEAU City Editor 'Don’t Forget Your Buddy,* is the slogan of Pointman International Ministries a new support group for military veterans. The group has become quite active since it got started last month, meeting twice a month at Tree of Life Fellowship Church, and planning a homeless outreach the day after Christmas. “We get about IO people to our meetings, but we are growing steadily. We pick up another person or two every meeting,” said member Steve Smith. “We are here to help other vets readjust an get into the mainstream of life again,” he said. “ Although the international group is geared towards Vietnam vets, the local group is reaching out to vets of all wars. “There are probably five veterans in dire, dire, need here in the community,” Smith said. “They have to deal with alcoholism, drug abuse, unemployment, because of post traumatic stress disorder. A lot of vets have climbed into the closet so to speak and they need to come out and deal with some issues. At our meetings, you find a lot of denial. People are having problems and they won't admit it has anything to do with Vietnam. Then when they do admit it, you see this tremendous release.” The group meets at 7:30 p.m. the first and third Tuesday of every month at the Tree of Life Fellowship on Loop 337. Call 625-6375 for information. Pointman Ministries is also asking the community to help out with its homeless outreach project The day after Christmas, the group will distribute blankets, coats, gifts and other items to the homeless. “We found a group of about 200 transient indigents who gather at Interstate IO and Durango every Sunday for a religious service,” Smith said He said the group will distribute the items collected here after the service. Anyone who can contribute blankets, coats, gifts or cash, can drop it at Tree of Life Fellowship, or call 625-6375.
