Hospice, which provides physical, emotional, social and spiritual support for terminally ill patients and their families, is a non-profit organization. Hospice New Braunfels is a tax-exempt organization governed by a volunteer board of directors, licensed by the Texas Department of Health, and certified for the Medicare Hospice Benefit by Health Care Finance Administration. Gordon said the staff of Hospice deals with an average of 29 patients per day. “Approximately six of those (29) would be nonreimbursable. In other words they would have no funds to pay for it.” She said Hospice accepts patients regardless of their financial resources. The Tree of Lights fundraiser raises a majority rf the funds every year to keep Hospice running, Gordon said. One light will glow on the Hospice Tree of Lights located on the top of the New Braunfels Utilities building for every donation. Donations can be made to honor someone “who lights up your life” or donations can be made in memory rf a friend or relative, in celebration rf the birth of a child, or in commemoration of a special occasion. A dove also will be placed on the tree in the lobby of McKenna Memorial Hospital with the honoree'sname. For more information on how to donate call Hospice at 625-7500. Doug Buchanan will replace Michel Belmont, who has been promoted to a position in his homeland of France, a spokesman for the Lafarge Corp. confirmed on Friday. Buchanan, who received a degree in mechanical engineering from Concordia University in Montreal, has worked for Lafarge at a plant in Canada for the (last six years, the spokesman said. Lafarge officials announced in September that Edmont had been promoted to vice president of operations of LFI, Lafarge Fondu International, a calcium-aluminate cement company owned by Lafarge that produces special cements in Paris. Edmont was in Paris this past week but will return to New Braunfels to help Buchanan with the transition, the spokesman said.
