She was a resident of Canyon Lake. She is survived by her husband, Andrew Tomczyk of Canyon Lake; two daughters, Andrea Miller and husband Robert of New Jersey and Michele Cain and husband Albert of San Antonio; two grandchildren, Albert Cain and Jessie Miller; two sisters, Jane R. Fritz of LaHabra, Calif, and Leona Ness of Fla.; one brother, Edward C. Johnson of LaJolla, Calif. Services will be held on Monday, Dec. 8 at 8:30 a.m. in the St. Thomas Chapel at Canyon Lake. The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association. y^k 'ar H INF WL HOME LLOYD G. NEWMAN Lloyd G. Newman passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 3, 1997, in Seguin, at the age of 74. He served in the U.S. Army for 11 years and was a World War ll veteran. After the war he became a school teacher and taught for 20 years. He is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth Lee Easterlin and husband Larry of Bedford, Texas; grandchildren, Michelle and Jonathan Easterlin; sisters, Louise Knodel of San Antonio, Dora Nuhn and husband Roger of New Braunfels and Eleanor Longfellow of Washington; one brother. Earl Newman and wife Drusilla of Pearland, Texas and numerous nieces, nephews, great-meces and great nephews Graveside services will be held on Monday, Dec. 8 at IO a m at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, with full military honors. Lewis, age 89, of Canyon Lake, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 1997, at McKenna Memorial Hospital in New Braunfels. .. (Bill) Rutkin. age 47, died suddenly Dec 4 at his home in New Braunfels. At the time of his death Bill was associated with the V I family-owned Henne Hardware as Office Manger and Advertising Director. Bill’s profession was writing. He began as a copy boy at the Shreveport Times at the age of 12 and joined the sportswriting staff a few years later, working at the Times for more than 20 years. He then joined the Killeen Times-Herald as sports writer and was promoted to Sports Editor a few years later. He won a number of awards for his writing from newspaper societies in Louisiana and Texas. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Lt. Col. (U.S. Army, retired) Joseph Rutkin and Ana Marjorie Evans Rutkin. He was briefly married to Sheree Rutkin in 1980. He is survived by his sister, Joy E. Martinka of New Braunfels and her husband Paul J. Martinka; aunt, Jeanne E. Smith of Newton Square, Pa. and Englewood, Fla.; and two cousins, Santita S. Gray of Tulsa, Okla. and Susan S. Gallant of San Diego, Calif. A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 8, 1997, at St. Joseph Anglican Church with Father William McGinnis officiating. Bill’s body will be cremated, with arrangements being made through Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home. The family requests that friends wishing to honor Bill’s memory make contributions to Dittlinger Memorial Library in his name. Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home JOHN ASKEW COFFEY John Askew Coffey, born in Sulphur Springs, Texas, one of seven children to Robert Walker and Florrie Askew Coffey on Oct. 8, 1905, died in Fort Worth, Texas, on Dec. 5, 1997, at the age of 92. Graveside services will be at I p.m. Monday, Dec. 8, 1997, at Trinity Memorial Park in Big Spring, Texas, with Rev. Bob Underwood, associate pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. He was married in 1929 to Margaretta Sander Coffey, who preceded him in death on March 30, 1965. He later married Cleta Faye Fryar Coffey who survives him. Mr. Coffey was very active in the First Baptist Church in Big Spring and later in New Braunfels serving as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, treasurer and in numerous other capacities. He was honored with a lifetime membership in Kiwanis International with perfect attendance for over 50 years. He held several offices in Kiwanis, including Lieutenant Governor of his district and was responsible for helping form several new clubs. He served as president of the Board of Trustees of Howard County Junior College and as president of the Texas State Junior College Board, was active in SCORE, Crippled Children’s Association, Baylor Heritage Club and was a lifetime member of the Baylor Alumni Association. For the last five years, he has resided at the Broadway Plaza Retirement Community in Fort Worth and is a member of Broadway Baptist Church. In addition to his wife, Cleta Faye, he is survived by a son, Robert Thomas (Bob) Coffey, M.D., of Fort Worth; a daughter, Glenna Coffey Moore of Dallas; two stepdaughters, Nina Fryar Pruitt of Fort Worth and Margaret Fryar Tarlcton of San Antonio; a sister, Florrie Coffey McDowell and a brother, R.W. Coffey, both of Sulphur Springs; IO grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Family requests memorials be given to Baylor University of Broadway Baptist Church in Fort Worth.
