the vvaterpark’s main lot in front of the “castle” gates.
“That lot has been engineered and prepared for landscaping, so I do know it will contain 180 spaces,” she said.
During high traffic days, Schlitterbahn takes advantage of a lease with die Comal County Fair Association for offsite parking, giving visitors almost 30 acres of additional space for their vehicles.
Although Brammall claimed the new zoning was being requested for its parking lot potential, city staff is recommending approval of the change only if it includes a 45-foot height restriction.
Planning Director f rank Robbins said the restriction was designed to prevent Schlitterbahn from building any new park rides on the property in the future, a move unrestricted C-4A zoning would allow.
Brammall insisted the company was only interested in using die land for parking but indicated disappointment over the restriction.
“We want the same zoning that covers most of the rest of our property,” she said. “We're just looking for consistency.”
Robbins said that after complaints the city had received from neighbors about a tall ride in Schlitterbahn Hast, he thought it was appropriate to add the restriction.
If the company ever did decide to expand its amusement operations to the other side of liberty Avenue, Robbins admitted they could place tall rides on the portions of their property already zoned C-4A without restrictions and place shorter rides on the more-recendy rezoned property:
Schlitterbahn’s attempt to get the zoning change will not end with the Maiming Commission. The company’s request still must be approved by New Braunfels City Council before it is final.
In other business Tuesday, tile Planning Commission will:

Key al-Qaida leader killed by Pakistani forces
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (AP) — One of al-Qaida’s top five leaders, a key associate of Ayman al-Zawahri, was tracked down with U.S. help and killed by Pakistani security forces in a rocket attack near the Afghan border, officials said Saturday.
Hamza Rabia, believed to have become al-Qaida’s operational commander after die arrest of Abu Farraj al-Ubbi in northwestern I’akistan in May,
ranks somewhere between third and fifth in the terror network’s hierarchy, officials said.
He was among five people who died in an explosion Thursday in the North Waziris-tan tribal area. Information Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said Rabia’s remains were identified via a DNA test.
In Kuwait, President Gen. Pervez Musharraf confirmed that Rabia was killed.
“Yes, indeed, 200 percent
confirmed,” Musharraf said at the start of a three-nation visit in the Middle East.
Ahmed backed the official line that the blast was set off as the victims were making explosives inside a suspected al-Qaida hideout.
However, a senior intelligence official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said a missile attack triggered a huge explosion in a stockpile of bomb-making materials.
