Wundorfich tipped for FFA honor

n School, has been nominated to receive the National FFA Organization’s Honorary American FFA Degree. Wunderlich I was nominated Bonnie Wunderlich for the degree by the Texas FFA Association, and the nomination was approved by die National FFA Board of Directors at its recent meeting in Alexandria, Va.
! The Honorary American FFA Degree, the highest honorary award presented by the FFA, recognizes those who are helping advance agricultural education and the FFA told who have rendered outstanding Service. This year, 56 teachers of agricultural education were nominated to receive the degree during the 70th National FFA Convention in Kansas City, Mo., iviov. 13 to 15.
; During Wunderlich’s 25 years at New Braunfels High School, four students have earned the American FFA degree, 65 students have received the State FFA degree, five students have earned state proficiency awards, 13 gold, seven silver and IO bronze emblems were awarded for accomplishments in state career development events.
“Allstate believes this settlement is in the best interest of our customers, employees and shareholders,” said company spokeswoman Sharon Cooper in Dallas.
“Jt is a clear example of why differences between insurance companies and regulators should be resolved within the (insurance department) and not through costly, unnecessary litigation. The settlement represents Allstate’s strong commitment to work with TDI on issues that arise in the normal course of business,” she said.
Friday’s order ended a case that began when the department found discrepancies in auto liability rates filed by Allstate in 1995 and 19%.
SERVPRO owners get honor
Darby and Tamara Wright, owners of SERVPRO of San Marcos/New Braunfels, were honored with the Directors Gold award while attending the SERVPRO National Convention in San Antonio.
SERVPRO is a national cleaning and restoration cleaning company with more than 930 franchises nationwide.
The National Convention, celebrating its 28th anniversary, is the premier event of the company’s year and honors the achievements of SERVPRO franchises while sharing new advancements in the industry.
Darby and Tamara Wright have
been SERVPRO franchise owners for 13 and one-half years. The Directors Gold award recognizes their franchise for volume and sales performance.
“This recognition is one of the biggest rewards of being a SERVPRO franchise owner.” Tamara said.
SERVPRO offers cleaning services including carpet and upholstery cleaning, in-home dry cleaning of draperies, an application of stain and soil protectants. Specialized emergency services such as restoration of fire, smoke and water damages are also available.
Friedman’s Jewelers will host the grand opening of its 387th store in New Braunfels on Saturday.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Average interest rates on 30-year, fixed-ratc mortgages rose to 7.58 percent ibis, weak*-the thild
since the end of Juty, when the average hit a 17 I/2-month low.
The average increased from 7.46 percent a week earlier, Freddie Mac said Thursday. Rates have moved up and down this year, depending on the degree of nervousness in financial markets about inflation.
This year’s peak in mortgage rates was 8.18 percent during the week ended April 3, after the Federal Reserve tightened
monetary policy. The low was 7.36 percent during the week ended July 31.
Fifteen-year mortgages, a popular option for those refinancing, averaged 7.12 percent this week, up from 6.99 percent a week earlier.
