Ladies, you have had this experience — the guilt trip. Whether it was trekked with your mate or your children, it was a rough time. In hindsight, it is easy to reflect and manipulate all the what ifs. One day, a very wise woman came into my shop and bought a pie. She also shared her own bit of philosophy with me. She said, “Life is like driving a car, you can’t move forward if you are constantly looking in the rearview mirror.” How liberating is that morsel? Living is learning — the ultimate test. If you fail, do not worry, you will experience it again. Every day, we need to be confident that whatever challenges lay ahead, we are prepared to do battle. Did you know that the word “war” in the military means “we are ready.” Our goal as women, mothers and workers should be “Yes, we can.” Sound familiar, Bob the Builder? Think about it. We teach our daughters to become ladies and our sons to become men.. You are the role model. Just because we were not born with the Y chromosome does not MARILYN BUSH Marilyn Bush is a mother of four children and a business owner. mean we ..................................... are weak. Surely you can recall the old saying, “Behind every good man there is a better woman.” Well, its time to believe. Apparently, many men think that because women want equality, we are evolving into a new species. Actually, we do not want to be men, we just want to have our cake and eat it too. A smart woman can achieve this. We do not have to make the decisions, we just want our opinions taken seriously. Now that I feel not guilty with stating my feelings, I would like to help you whip up a pie. This sensuous dessert will make you feel great. Apple Pie filling 6-8 Granny Smith apples (peeled, diced and quartered) 3/4 cup sugar 1/2 cup all purpose flour I tsp. ground cinnamon 1 tbsp, fresh squeezed lime juice 2 tbsp, unsalted butter Toss the flour, sugar, cinnamon and lime juice with the apples. Marinate at room temperature 20 minutes. Use an unbaked 8-inch deep dish pie shell and top shell. Place the apple pie filling in the deep dish shell, dot with butter. Cover with top shell, crimping the edges to seal. Make 3-5 slits on the top shell and sprinkle the top with cinnamon and sugar. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. The pie crust should be brown and the filling bubbly. Optional: Place cheddar cheese slices on top of warm pie and serve with dollop of vanilla ice cream.
