Other members of the community are invited to come and wok on the project any Semidry, beginning at 8:00 Aid. Aller Labor Day, there will usually be a crew mocking during to week (Monday through FridayX but it would be best to call to Building Chairman, ADlhihn, lr (625-7005) the day before lobe certain what work will be done.
Anyone who has not had the Safety Indoctrination Course offered by the affiliate should be at to site *7:30 on each Saturday, in order to insure th* sound safety procedures are practiced by to volunteers. No one will be permitted to work on to site until they have received this briefing. Volunteers are asked to bring hammers, hand or power saws, sturdy gloves, “safe” shoes, safety glasses, hats and sunscreen lotion to protect them Dram to Summer sun.
The fir* day of construction on a Habit* house is usually a bit chaotic. Many persons show up to help and are not quite sure wh* to do and where to fit it Everyone Should report to the Registration Tent fir*. “Walk-ons” will be assigned to a crew or task as scheduled by the Building Superintendent. If the tasks are all filled, you are welcome to remain on to site to observe the buflding procedures so you will know wh* do bier, “cheer on” the other volunteers, talk to one of the Board members about the work of Habitat, or be an “unofficial sidewalk superintendent.”
Regardless of wh* your purpose is for coining on Saturday, the affiliate wants you to feel welcome and not be too disappointed if you can’t swing a hammer or saw a boatel to fiat day,. There are otter treks th* need performed and there will be many, many more days of work scheduled before the house is completed
A noon meal is planned for the woken and other cooling refteahmcnis will be available on Satunhy. Since no one can be sure how many will show up as “walk-ons”. It might be good insurance these first few work days to bring a sandwich or two and a snail cooler of noo-alooholic drinks for your own use and to share.
This fir* Habit* house in Comal County is a real venture in faith. Due to unpredcMbie high coats offend and concrete woric to project will come in considerably over the originally planned figure of $25,000. The affiliate still needs over $14,000 to complete this home and additiotol funds hopefully, to begin the second unit later this ye*. The challenge goal is build five house aa ye* by 1999.
An infonn*ion board* the aile indicates how many people have been involved in bringing the program to this point.
